Since when do Nascar, Formula One, and NHRA use winter tires?  ::)

 :rofl2:

Since they are not getting enough people watching these sports anymore they are going to have a winter series here in Canada.

On top of that Goodyear makes what I consider to be the WORST tires.  But they sure are good at marketing.

Wing, out of curiousity, has your Goodyear experience been limited to OEM tires?

Didn't the F1 GS-D3 win a tirerack comparison?

Just in my tire testing experiences.  Sure they make a few good tires. But their ultra grip is a pretty bad winter tire and the RS-A's are not so lovely either.

Consensus in the tire industry is that Goodyear is mostly a marketing company.

Yeah, I've heard nothing but loathing about the RS-A's...

FWIW, I always thought of them as the Bose of tire manufacturers.

Well for our warm winters out west, I'm considering going WR's in the winter and performance in the summer...

Is it true that the WR's will last longer than regular winters?

If you use the WR as dedicated winters, they likely will last longer and be no worse than regular winter tires in tread life. Taking them on and off kind of defeat the purpose a little bit. But if your purpose is to retain some performance character in the winter, it is not a bad choice.

I've had RS-A's on a couple of cars now (including our 2007 Mazda3 Sport GT) and find them to be an adequate rim protector.  I won't be slaloming in them and I guess that they were chosen as much for their quietness and generally innocuous nature as any other reason my Mazda.  When rotated regularly they will last to their tread wear indicators.

I'm interested in what you mean about Bose.  Not to go too far off topic (or to hijack this thread!) but is Bose an overpriced name?  We can start a thread on this in another forum I suppose, but I have noted that many expensive luxury brands trumpet their use of Bose in their upgraded car stereo options.

Don't get audio guys going on Bose (Radioshack by any other name would sound as sweet  ;) ).

If you do a search on Bose speakers there are PLENTY of websites that outline the huge deficiencies compared to most other brands... especially when considering price.  They are known for large gaps in mid/low frequency ranges (actually not producing certain frequencies) and are noted as being difficult to calibrate with subwoofers.  Most of what I have read relates to the home theatre cubes so I'm not sure if it applies to car audio.  Bose, IMO, is advertised by manufacturers in high end vehicles because Joe average knows the name and assumes they are the best.

^^Exactly, thanks for taking the time to write that out. ^^

I've always seen Goodyear (and Bose) as marketing companies first.  Their products may actually be decent, but not for the price premium they are demanding.

I've started a new thread (with some pics) in this forum with my thoughts of our Nokian Hakkapeliitta RSi and Hakka SUV winter tires.  Not very scientific, but I believe an accurate reflection of my experience with these Finnish snow tires.

I haven't made enough posts to be allowed/trusted to post links so you'll just have to look for the thread, "Mini-Review: Winter Boots for 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe and 2007 Mazda3 GT Sport"

Enjoy!
