Look up the MSDS for Certified brakes product number 13-0101.  The manufacturer is listed as Satisfied Brake Products Inc., Cornwall, Ontario.

I stand corrected, the Monroe & Nascar lines are Raybestos, the Certified's are/were indeed made Satisfied. They are D3EA certified. Partsource is a division of Canadian Tire Corp.

Over the past few days, I've checked the DOT#'s on every set of pads I passed to my techs and was quite suprised. Some of the Certified had Wagner and Raybestos numbers on them, the majority were Satisfied. The Monroes again had Satified & Raybestos numbers on them. We must be purchasing both lines according to supply(most manufacturers don't make parts for all vehicles) and quality. Oil filters are the same way, some of the Motomaster filters are Wix, most are Fram. The only consistent lines were the Jasper(all Satisfied), and the Nascar Advantage by Raybestos.

That's interesting.  I had run into the Wagner "import" before but didn't know about Raybestos.

How many Motomaster filters are Wix?!?  I don't remember the cost at NAPA - would this be a better deal for a great filter?

Also, are Satisfied, Wagner, and Raybestos "in cahoots" in some way?  I've noticed many of their part numbers are identical with just a different prefix.  For example, 2002 Expedition front pads - Satisfied = PR702, Wagner = MX702, Raybestos = SSD702.  I've always wondered if I would get Wagner parts for some pads if I ordered the Satisfied branded box from PartSource.  Kind of like getting a MOOG part in a TRW box.

That number designation AA702, BB702, the letters are manufacturer designation, the  numbers are SAE numbers. I don't think Wagner, Raybestos and Satisfied have trade agreements, but nothing surprises me much anymore. Only a couple of our Motomaster brand filters are Wix, the majority are Fram.

Oh, that makes sense, thanks.  That's actually a very good idea on the part of the SAE.  Don't find many of those in this trade. Wink

I have gotta ask... What's the deal with the NASCAR branded stuff at Canadian Tire?

To be frank, it reminds me of kids toys/clothes/school supplies that are branded with Disney/Dora/Spongebob or any other current popular icon.  The draw is the icon, certainly not worth the extra money.

Did some MBA type with come up with marketing ploy?

It's a sponsorship agreement between Canadian Tire & NASCAR Canada. Partsource is NASCAR Canada's official supplier. At work we find the corporation is going overboard pushing NASCAR's name. For the most part it's just advertising for the simple purpose of advertising.
