Offer $16K to the dealer or Volvo Canada?
I don't think the dealers have much authority to adjust the pre-determined residual value.
Chances are the dealer would want you to lease a new one, and they just give the old one back to Volvo Canada.

Offer $16K to Volvo Finance, they are the one's owning the car.

I didn't think you could offer less at the end of a lease as it's written in your agreement the price already. If so, I might try this next year with my wagon.

I doubt they'll have any interest in negotiating with you. Why don't you call them now and find out rather than waiting till the end.

I meant to call now just to see if negotiating is even a possibility.

For what it's worth, I bought out my 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix from GMAC for less money than the stated contract price. GMAC knows far more about the car finance business then I will ever know. Selling cars at the auction every day, they know full well what the wholesale market value is. I suppose they were still better off selling the car to me then wholesaling it at a loss at the auction. It probably means I had a crummy lease deal and they already made their money.  :D

This sounds like entering a dealership and saying "I plan to buy a car in 6 months, what's your best price?"

I still think I'll wait....

Nah, you're just going to deal with some customer service type person that couldn't care less if you buy or give back your car and will have forgotten the call 20 minutes later. :) If you hear, "No, absolutely no negotiations are allowed" then at least you can plan accordingly.

We tried to negotiate with GMAC the residual on an Oldsmobile that was leased prior to the announcement of the Brand's demise to no avail though I wasn't expected to be successful; I'm sure there are many commercial and legal reasons for a finance company like GMAC for not selling used cars retail.

If they don't want to deal, no problem, I'll pay a visit to my local Caddy CTS dealer.

"But the dollar has remained strong and Toyota Canada rocked the industry earlier this month by reducing retail stickers on 16 models.

The company also hinted it would cut them on the 2009 Corolla, Matrix and Camry models when they arrive in showrooms during the next few weeks."

It's already mid-Feb but still no word on 2009 Corolla, Matrix and Camry pricing.
Maybe an Autoshow announcement?  ???

Toyota building cars in Cambridge/Woodstock is paying off.

This is going to put huge pressure on the Civic, Rabbit and Mazda3.
The Civic has room to lower prices, since it's also built in Canada.
Unfortunately the Rabbit is from Germany, I doubt if it has any more room for reduction.
Where are Mazda3s built? Japan?
