Ford raises prices on ever model of every brand (in USA)
« on: January 28, 2008, 04:46:06 pm »
Told you the low prices in US was not sustainable.
It doesn't matter if the US is going in a recession or not.
When the fundamental raw material prices increase, and companies plan to keep the same profit margin, the final price of vehicles will increase.

I expect other manufacturers to follow suit.

Ford raises prices on ever model of every brand (but it’s not so bad)

The folks at Automotive News found that FoMoCo has raised sticker prices on its domestic cars and light trucks. The increase was across the board including every model of every brand besides the Ford E-Series van and wagon, the Lincoln Mark LT (since it’ll be dropped and the end of this model year) and the Lincoln Town Car (since its a fleet car).

Prices of Ford, Lincoln and Mercury brand rose an average of $198 bringing Ford’s increase for the model year to date to $502. Still cheaper compared to GM’s price hike of $646. The Ford brand saw a price increase of $197 while Lincoln and Mercury models were increased by $253 and $166 respectively.

Prices for the brand new Ford F-150 went up $175 to $475. The largest price increase is on the Ford Expedition ($500) and the Lincoln Navigator ($675).

Why don't they just do what most makes have done in Canada over the last years and raise the cost of PDI from $500-600 to $1500-$2000?

I expect to find this any day at the Subaru dealer:

NEW low "Strong Canadian Dollar" pricing on the WRX!!  Now only $19,995!  Lower than the US price!"

Configured:

WRX: $19,995
Fright/PDI: $15,995
Total: $35,990
No place I'd rather be...

Ford Motor Co. executives say they will let the market share of their domestic brands drop rather than try to prop it up with heavy incentives. Instead of setting an arbitrary share number, it's more important for Ford to maximize profits "so you can manage your cash and invest in new products," CEO Alan Mulally told Automotive News last week.

Now that Toyota is #2, they can stop looking over their shoulder and start looking forward.

Let's hope they maximize profits by looking at the long term gains (ie quality), and not by shortchanging suppliers.

Maybe they are admitting that their current NA car offerings are not very good so they'll just let them go out of production with low sales, close some factories and just make trucks.  The CAW would be pleased... NOT

Seems like an average, routine year over year increase.Looks to me to be roughly 2% on average. I don't really see how it has much to do with "low prices in US' being "not sustainable"

X2

A manufacturer announcing no price incrase for any models for 2008-09 would be much bigger news. Subaru Canada likled to play up that they did not increase the price on 2008 Legacy even though the model hadn't channged much.

Everyone expects a slight price incrase to go from a 2007 to a 2008. This isn't at all indicative of anything to do with exchange rates or Canada US pricing.

:iagree:  There's a little thing called inflation.  I'm not sure what the numbers for 2007 are, but the target inflation rate is between 1-3%.
