Fuel Saver
« on: January 25, 2008, 03:22:32 pm »
Any one ever heard of this stuff?

This EPA registered product saves gas, saves you money, and reduces greenhouse gases. Fuel efficiency is improved by 7-14%, which not only saves you money but also improves your engine’s performance.

I wouldn't belive anything from that site. If someone is willing to warrent my engine, I would give it a try to prove that it doesn't work in normal everyday cars.

Drop them directly into your 100mpg top-secret carb that the oil companies have kept hidden away.

You don't think the automakers wouldn't be ALL OVER somthing that gave them 7-14% better fuel economy?

With almost all the new vehicles of to-day coming with a screen in the gas fill pipe to prevent any garbage from getting past it I wonder just how long  it will take to melt in the pipe. These screens usually act as a anti-theft device as well as you can not get a hose down far enough to withdraw any fuel from the tank. I think you would have to try it to find out if its a scam or not by trying it and reporting back.  Reminds me of the Cow Magnets that folks tied to their fuel lines years ago to help get better milage. At least the Magnets were useful after the test for other things including the cows.  Cow Magnets are used to keep any metal that the cow eats while grazing from passing thru into the rest of the stomach depts as they usually just stay in the 1st stomach part after being placed there by the owner. They are about 3" long with rounded sides and ends so there is no sharp edges at all. :)

Well..I won't say snake oil unless I know what's in it chemical wise.  I thought the addition of acetone would do nothing for MPG in my Echo, when in fact it did. If these pills contain Acetone, Toulene or Xlene I wouldn't dismiss them as "snake oil", since these 3 are known to help combustion and increase MPG.

EDIT:  Ok...I just looked at the MSDS sheets for their products. Only MPG Boost shows what's in it.  All others are "proprietary".  It contains Xlene.  Xlene has been shown to increase MPG and boost Octane.  Some people use Xlene to make race fuel.  While I can't it would do 7-15% improvement, I have no doubt your fuel economy would benefit from this...I just don't know how much.  I'd try it....

The last time I checked acetone, toluene and xylene were EXTREMELY toxic compounds all by themselves, never mind what happens when they burn. If this is such a magic and easy way to boost mileage, why hasn't everyone done it?

I have no idea why more people don't do it.  Likely the false perception of "snake oil"?  It can also be a PITA to keep a little bottle of acetone in the glove box of your car when refilling.  It doesn't bother me any though, but I could see someone not wanting acetone stored in the glove box or trunk I guess.  Maybe also because of perceptions of being dangerous, like you ask?  They are toxic in large quantities....but so is plain old gasoline.  Acetone actually burns cleaner than gasoline (it is the least toxic of all solvents)   But keep in mind in my acetone tests the amount of acetone added to the fuel tank equalled a rate of less than 0.2%  Not very much.  I'm not even sure if you could get a reading from a tailpipe with such a low percentage.  Acetone has also been shown to REDUCE hydrocarbons when used as a fuel additive.  It biodegrades in soil and water.

While I do know that Toluene and Xlene have both been used for octane booster and MPG additive (they've also powered race cars at Indy at one point or another), I haven't tested either as significantly as I have Acetone, so I can't give you as much info on those.....

We've already covered the acetone snake oil. Some are just more gullible than others. ::)
Do a CTC search for "acetone" for further enlightenment. ;D

You could probably save an honest 20% of your fuel bill by just driving and accelerating  slower .

Hello there!

Has anyone heard about KHAOS Super Gas Saver?

It's an air bleed device that has been tested and provide Test Results or Certifications.

There are some blogs about it but if you study carefully, it was an "operation destruction" because no one can prove they have tested it scientifically and they condemn people who are saying positive things about the product.

I heard its available in Surrey...I've got to see it.  ;)
