Hi fellow Canadian drivers,

Have you noticed that we don't hear or read anything about the high Canadian prices anymore? Most manufacturers gave a few candies (much less than fair discount, actually), but then nothing else moved? Wanna know why?

Think about it this way: if your biggest advertisers were car companies (look at your favorite newspaper and count the ads...), do you think they would be happy if you continuously published stories that made them look like thieves? Of course not. I'm sure some phone calls were made...

The reality is like this: even with the pitiful incentives now offered to Canadians, we are still paying WAY too much for cars. Do like I do: DON'T BUY ANYTHING NEW UNLESS YOU REALLY HAVE TO. If people stopped buying new cars for 30 days, the prices would come down.

Remember this: you are the market. You can make these prices go down. Just stop buying new cars!!!!

Not fair!

Sailor does love the topic and he does post almost endlessly on the subject BUT he contributes in many more forums and topics nowadays.

To the OP: There is a conference for this discussion and the media writes what sells. I think a few weeks ago there were many topics on the subject in the papers and with the car shows coming to Canada, this will likely get play again.

I agree, sailor is a good contributor now. Not a "one trick pony" any more.  ;D ;)

As to topic, newspapers and electronic media only publish what is "hot" at the moment in the general public's insatiable demand for the latest "news" and nothing over 2 days old. IMO, it's a non-issue (the pricing) but some on here feel like it's a problem. Fair enough.

The media has a notoriously short attention span for most topics

The test as to whether or not this topic is yesterday's news will be in Canadian new car sales over the coming months and what kind of traffic dealers are getting on their used lots.

Of course the way the markets are going lately car sales may be down for the simple reason that everyone is broke! :'(

I agree. Once the Canadian car show circuit gets up and running, the media will once again focus on the issues that face the auto sales in Canada.

Every month sales decline or remain static in Canada raises the chance that the manufacturers will react. I still suspect that the discounts this summer should be significant. I'm optomistic that there will be change - not parity, but change.

I think that given the economic situation declining or static car sales are more liable to be covered by media as a sign of a possible recession.

Good point. In any case, car sales in Canada may likely continue to decline which should produce some deals for buyers.
