"As well, Dodge announced a new light-duty Cummins clean diesel engine will arrive after 2009 and a new two-mode hybrid powertrain will be available in the Ram 1500 in the 2010 model year. "

I would like to hear more about the light duty diesel

Interior looks a lot better than the old versions...

And 5 cases of "beverages" fit in the side compartment? Talk about a tailgate party...

Up here in Truck County more than half of the owners have a cap or Touneau cover of some configuration and that bed rail storage feature would be unusable. The interior is a huge improvement and Dodge took a page form the FORD book of styling.

You are correct it has have a Ford look to it

Up here in Truck County

There is nothing about Northern Ontario that makes it any more "Truck Country" than Southwestern Ontario.which is a blanket of farms that run from the Bruce Peninsula to Windsor to Niagara.  Farmers generally drive pickups.  Sampling the Kitchener/London Truck Trader and the Northern Truck Trader (Sudbury-North Bay) the ratio is 6-1 for the Ford F150.

What is the ratio of cars vs. trucks in Southern Ontario compared to Northern Ontario?

Excluding population centres like London, K-W, etc.   You tell me?  Smiley

I'm confident that Owen Sound, which is the regional seat for Grey and Bruce Counties (largest beef and pork producers east of Alberta), has a higher ratio of pickups than the Greater Sudbury area.  The area is totally agricultural, significantly more snow, greater elevations, and just as many recreational opportunities.

And between ourselves, who drives a pickup?  Does that count? Smiley

Odd that they pictured a climbing helmet (Petzl Elios, to be exact) and two climbing ropes in the bed rail storage space.  I have never met any climber that has such a vehicle, and know not one that would be remotely interested in it.

How wide are those bed-rail storage boxes?  They look like they would infringe on the space in the box, I'd rather do without.  Unless I needed a heavy duty truck, I would much prefer the Ridgeline's in-bed trunk to these bed-rail things...

You can fit a set of golf clubs in it there is a picture in the gallery to prove it.  It is a total of 8.6 cubic feet.

8.6 cubic feet?  That's like an RX-8's trunk!  Not bad.

It looks like a dirtbike/ATV helmet might fit:

EDIT:  Found the "real" use for the compartments:

Quote
Each box holds up to 4.3 cubic feet of whatever — such as five cases (120 cans) of 12-ounce beverages.

Ten cases of beer in your truck with zero chance of a cop saying "that's a lot of beer in your cab, sir."

If I did not have a cap I would rather have side boxes then the in bed box, at least you would not have empty the bed to get to the box, ie getting to our spare tire if your truck is full is a major pain

I think in place of the cap people would use the Ram Box. We have a cap on our Ram and it's a PITA when you need to carry something tall, because it's not simple to remove and store. If the Box is useful, I'd rather that. Our Ram also has a great rear seat storage option that I hope is still available (rear seats fold flat up 60/40, storage underneath, and a foldable flat floor that goes over the storage and where your feet would be to create an artifically raised flat floor).

How much does the Ram Box take away from the width of the bed?

Saying you are confident is hardly fact, don’t BS the regular players Smiley. You bought up the point and I asked the question, where is the link  CityPig
I have driven and owned may truck in the past 35 years and just because I have not had one since then second week of December does not mean I’m not a real truck person in truck country.

Once you are out of a core area, really any area is truck country
Drive by a small legion hall in Grafton, along Hwy 2, you see 8 pick up , 4 SUV, 1 car

I'm leaving that to you.  Smiley

The greater Sudbury area and beyond is no more "truck county" than the farm belts of southwestern Ontario, which is a different market entirely from "southern" Ontario btw.

I have driven and owned may truck in the past 35 years

I thought you were in your mid 40's  Huh

just because I have not had one since then second week of December does not mean I’m not a real truck person in truck country.

You may like pickups and have owned them in the past, but you can't have it both ways.  If you were a devoted pickup owner you'd have one.  Obviously not a priority which is completely understandable because one needs to really have a use for one due to how expensive they are now becoming to own and operate.  Smiley

Ford's Western Region (AB,SK,MN) sells more trucks than the rest of Canada combined. Quibling over which part of Ontario is "truck country" is very amusing. Smiley
