Cleaner Wheel Suggestions - 205/50/R17 - Prefer Tire Trends.
« on: January 02, 2008, 09:22:16 pm »
I don't know a lot about wheels (summer). I am looking for rims that are

1) Easy to Clean. The rims I have, I find difficult   to keep clean becuase the inner half of the rims around the brake area is hard to reach.

2) Easy to not clean

Anyone have suggestions? Even though I'm not a fan of black rims I was thinking of going black thinking they wouldn't show as much brake dust. Also I don't have access to a garden hose so this is another issue.

I do plan on changing my brake pads to something cleaner.

Brake pads work well.......You can always wax your wheels like I do.  Also, there is some spray you can put on that keeps the dust from sticking as easily.

But better pads will make all the difference...
How fast is my Supra?  I sh*t on Cessnas from a roll....

Get yourself a brush to reach in and clean those areas? I find the same problem myself but I just clean it when i swap for winter wheels. Or in this years case since it's so cold i'll do it when I put the summer wheels back on.

There are like a zillion different kinds of rims so picking any to suggest not knowing what your car looks like, what you want them to look like if you care about weight etc price is pretty well impossible.

If the #1 reason to get new rims is brake dust just sell your existing rims and buy steel wheels with hubcaps. They will show NO brake dust.

If you are like most people (at least that I talk to) you are buying rims for LOOKS. Black rims only look decent on some cars. In most cases they look cheap IMO.

Get something like a 5 star with lots of space between spokes so you can just take a wash mitt (I have a mitt I use ONLY for the rims) and reach around the back of the spokes. Avoid anything with little spaces that requires a bruch. Plainer and flatter the spokes are the better. Avid stuff with a lipp as its one more place the dust can collect.

I suggest going to Tirerack and using their software to see what wheels will look like on your car

The Pontiac Pursuit has a 5x110 bolt circle, so a little harder to find wheels. A nice clean design is the Motegi DV5.
