Right out of the shower!!
« on: December 08, 2007, 04:09:08 pm »
Ok here is the New ride. The RED REX!!
I just got it washed at the touchless car wash but if you look close, you can tell it could use another wash.

Its great to see a Subie that isn't blue or any car that isn't beige, silver or black.

great looking cat.

Very nice.  You paid the US price right.

Don't take this as a negative, but are you considering any tint?  Even 20% on the rear window alone would be a plus if tinting the whole thing doesn't appeal to you.  I never go more than 35% on the sides.

here is the info on what I payed and what I saved:
I got it at  Van Bortel Subaru and paid what they quoted the car to be online @ http://www.buildyourownsubaru.com/BuildYourCar.asp
2008 Impreza WRX 5 Door w/ Premium Package
With these options:
-Sport Grille
-Ski Attachment - Roof - 6 Pair
-Cross Bar Kit
-Block Heater
-NYS temp. registration
Total Vehicle Cost: USD$26,967.50 (paid to the dealer) (cost me CAN$27021.44 @ an exchange rate of 1.002)

The total cost is going to be: (I still need to pay PST)
car cost $27021.44
+ DUTY $1633.34 (based on a CAN$value of 26776, the daily exchange rate was 0.992 at the time of import)
+ GST  $1710.56
+ ExciseTax $100
+ PST $2279 (estimated @ 8%)
+ RIV $209
------------------
Total $32953.34 (estimated)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now the same car in Canada would be:
Crossbar set   $299.95
Ski/Snowboard carrier - 6 pair skis   $195.00
Mesh grille (body colour trim)   $369.95    + Installation
Block heater   $35.91 + Installation

MSRP     $33,895.00
PDI & Freight    $1,495.00
Air Tax    $100.00
Accessories    $900.81
Purchase Price    $36,390.81
PST    $2,911.26
GST/FST Taxes    $2,183.45
  Total    $41,485.52
-----------------------------------------------------------
In the Canadian cost I didn't include any dealer discount that I might have gotten because I felt that it would just be off set by the unknown installation cost.
So the savings are:
$41,485.52
- $32953.34
---------------
$8532.18

Originally I actually thought that I was going to be saving about 10K but there were some stuff I over looked (GST is based on the purchase value + Duty) and the dollar had dropped a bit since I started the process.

Now for my actual savings:
Savings $8532.18
- Gas $150
- One way rental $114 (National)
- Food $30 (I packed a lunch but bought dinner & beers, and breakfast the next day)
---------------------------------------------------
$8238.18

So far Overall I'm pretty happy with how things worked out.
Now all I have to do is sell my Civic

No worries, I'm going to tint the :censor: out of it. My last civic had pretty dark tint all around. The driver and passenger windows were lighter then the rest of the car but I don't think the were legal, so when I would get pulled over I would fire the windows down ASAP.

I think I saw a red WRX at the Petrocan on St. Laurent today, next to St. Hubert.

Also, cat!

This is truly a red hot hatch.  :) Nice work on the car and the purchase.

Hot because its red and on fire.

Lightning Red (I think thats what its called?) looks great on the hatch. You sure you don't have a MazdaSpeed3?   :D

I'd agree with the tinting...would make the car look 100 times better.  :) Since you got the Sport Grill, I would paint the chrome piece on the rear hatch. Then, everything would be body color.

Looks great, nice cat!

Congrats on a job well done. ~$8,000 in savings = $16,000 in before tax earnings (your mileage may vary), so don't work so hard!  ;) :)

Good looking ride! I too think it's cool to see a hot Subaru that is not silver or blue!

Congrats on your purchase!  :skid:

I agree the funny thing is that the girl at the DMV said that mine was the first import (of any type) that she processed that wasn't silver or gray. I've never really been fond of gray but silver sometimes looks good on certain cars. I do find that a lot of my friends have silver or grayish colour cars like pewter. When I asked why they picked the colour they would either answer I liked it or because it didn't show the dirt. If you like the colour fine but the whole dirt thing seems like a cop out to me.

Red really isn't that bad of a colour regarding dirt.  Of course this time of year the situation is hopeless.

Yes he was really nice. He ended up driving me to the airport to drop off my rental. On the way back we chatted about stuff.

Very nice. The red is a nice change over silver or the Subaru Blues...

I really like that red too. Great deal, and great choice of car!

It is a PITA to keep my car clean (in the end, it just doesn't remain clean most of the time), but still I wouldn't change it for silver or gray either. For some people, their car's color is not a big deal; perhaps it's more a big deal to us car nuts.
