Amazing how fast a minority Gov facing an election some time soon can react to hot button issues ;D
My first ever GM ownership experience  can best be described as   "Fool me once...."

I just read the updated story in the Globe and Mail....sounds like they're going to change the specs so if a US vehicle has an immobilizer it's in. ;D  If that's true a lot of the inadmissable 08's will be OK after Dec16

Now let's hear from JCON on rules being black and white
and due diligence being only option.  All 1100 vehicles
have been excepted.  The RIV gets expanded.

I'm here. They've changed the rules. Remains black and white. I was never against them loosening the rules, but these people still failed to do due diligence. They've been bailed out.

The RIV is still the bible. You couldn't import the vehicle until they changed the rule. I don't quite understand what is so hard to understand?

I thought that in a lot of these cases people checked the RIV list, found that their car was OK, and then found it had become inadmissable when they hit the border a week or two later?

My understanding was that they assumed that these vehicles would be on the list because the previous models were (ie '07 models) but they never did appear on the admissible list. Therefore they never appeared on the admissible.

Sailor723 is right.  Prior to Nov 26 the Subaru listing said "All other models 1999-2008 admissible".  The 2008 imprezza was NOT listed in the inadmisible column.  Therefore those people did perfom due diligence.

I just got back from my purchase and performed the due diligence of about 10 people with numerous phone calls and searches and 3 weeks of heavy stress due to mishaps and things beyond my control....that story in another thread..it was not fun in the least !  (And it still aint over)

Has anyone heard or read anything more about this topic? Have they announced the specific changes yet?  I believe the 15 days are up but I don't see anything on the RIV or TC site (or did they mean 15 business days?)

I see that the RIV and TC sites have been updated. It looks like most 08's are now OK as long as you have something (P&S agreement, window sticker, manufacturer letter) that says they have some sort of immobilizer (non Canadian standard OK)

Looks good that Ottawa will have a common bumper regulation with US and Europe.
