Anybody seen anything about the next generation X Ice from Michelin? I skimmed an article in our paper's "Wheels' section the other day that claimed up to 15' shorter stopping distances than the Xice2.

edit

Found this....looks like "the best winter tire" really is a moving target.

Nice to know
I am more interested in an Ice tire then a snow tire, as the roads are clear pretty quickly, so black ice is more of a problem

I've had a set of i2's on my Volvo since the fall and I can't praise them enough. Far better traction than any snow tyre I've ever had before (including those so-called "premium" Gislaved things that are supplied as OE from Volvo dealers), great handling qualities even on dry and no effect on fuel economy.

A new generation can only be an improvement, at least we can hope. Grin

Michelin organized a test day in Quebec recently to allow journalists to experience the new Xi3 under varying conditions.  The promotion was reported in the Motoring section of the Ottawa Citizen on Friday 10 Feb.  The Xi3 was compared to different winter tires for each of the conditions which seems odd and unconventional. Interestingly the latest Toyo Observe GSI-5 was number 1 in the ice test ahead of the Xi3.
