A question from someone who doesn't understand tyre sizes. How do the following tyre sizes differ and are tyres of these sizes interchangeable?

They are interchangeable.  Not perfect obviously, but doable.

Thanks - I was just curious whether I could re-use our existing winter tyres (P225/60R17) if we decide to replace the 500 in the future. The second dimensions (P215/60R17) are from the Rogue. Assuming I can read, copy and and paste properly.

The P225 tires are wider and taller. Your speedometer and odometer will be off by a percentage point or two. Your wheel wells may be too small to accommodate the larger tires without chafing - especially when the steering wheel is turned all the way. If you are looking at a wider tire it is generally best to pick a smaller aspect ratio - i.e. 225/55R17

What type of vehicle? If it is anything AWD then you will want to stick with the same OD...
