Centerbore Acura TSX vs Mazda MX5
« on: November 20, 2007, 01:21:36 am »
This is for a winter tire setup for my car.  (TSX)

I have a set of tires 205/60/16 Blizzak Revo1

I've found a set of alloy rims that were the right bolt pattern and offset.  My only question is the centrebore of the wheel.
The wheel I want to get is a stock wheel from a 2006 Mazda MX5 (style 110).  The guy I'm buying the wheel from says its 65mm centrebore, even though I can't find reference of it anywhere in the specs online.  However, I'm not one to argue with a person measuring it with a ruler.  :)  The Acura TSX has a 64.1mm centrebore.

Is it possible to have a 65mm centerbore, and if so, will it be a problem for my car?  Is there a hubcentric ring that would bridge the gap?

What do you guys think?

I would suggest that   0.9mm is just the right clearance so that you could get the wheel OFF after the winter without having to use a hammer!   That is: the wheel will be hub centric.

Having said that, measuring a diameter with a ruler is a fiddly business. If for some reason the wheel is only 63mm then a specialist tire shop should be able to turn the hole a tiny bit bigger... or know a machine shop that could.
A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

Bore on the MX-5 is 67.1mm and the bore on the TSX is 64.1....As long as the offset is good and wheels clear the calipers should work. Do a trial fit before mounting tires.
