Which tires? Grand Caravan
« on: November 14, 2007, 01:20:27 am »
Hi,
never have had winter tires before, been driving two years in Calgary on the stock all-seasons without too much issue, but figured i would get a set of winters this year.
So trying to do my research...

Have a 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan, currently with alloy 215/65R16

Will be buying from Kal Tire (family connection), so that limits my choices somewhat.

I think i have it narrowed down to;
Michelin x-ice
Nokian Hakkapeliitta RSi
Yokohama Ice Guard IG10

planning on getting these on steel rims.  Have jack, impact driver, and room in the garage to maintain two sets.

I drive about 15k to and from work each day, live in the burbs, and ususally one or two trips to edmonton area during the winter.  Roads are usually clear or slush due to our chinooks, although occasionally get a good dumping of snow.

which of the above would you recommend?  Also should go with 15" steel or stick with 16" ?  Other varieties of tires available include; Bridgestone blizzak, maxxis wintermax, and multi mile arctic claw.

Thanks for any advice

Welcome jgudnas.  I'm going with the Blizzak WS60's for our Odyssey this time around.  I've run Nokian tires before and have had good success with them.

well, after talking with the friendly salespeople, and admitting that calgary is a fairly temperate climate, decided to go with the Nokian WR 102H.

still classifies as a snow tire, and comes with 80k tread guarantee.

I was going to suggest the WR...I have them on the Sienna (also 215/65R16) and I am quite pleased. Works really well for us because the van doesn't get driven a lot and these all weather tires are great idea without needing to swap biaunually.
