Which 300HP+ engine should Audi add to the 2009 A4?
« on: November 01, 2007, 06:20:06 am »
The 300HP+ sports sedan war continues:

1. BMW 335i  -> 300HP.
2. IS350 -> 300HP+.
3. G35 -> 300HP+

I would like to see a 2.8L V6 twin-turbo.  ;D
Less weight, high boost!

Subaru can make a reliable 330 HP four, why can’t Audi.

Because unreliability is more profitable.  ;)

The STi's engine has a manic personality which might seem odd in a luxury sedan, even a sporty luxury sedan.  There's a reason you don't see an STi engine in the Lexus IS.

Marketing wise, I don't know if they can comfortably "reduce the numbers".

Has to be a 3.2T or 3.6.

Either way if I were buying the 2.0T it would be.

That is an inherent benefit of a better power to weight ratio.

Even with a superior power to weight ratio, not many people would be looking for a four cylinder luxury/sport vehicle in the 60k-70k range.

Doesn't Audi already have the S4 and RS4 for this purpose?

There is a big gap between the 255HP V6 and 350HP V8.

The S4/S5 is lot more expensive compared to the 335i.
The A4/A5 3.2 is not much less compared to the 335i.

Or is this Audi's pricing/product strategy against BMW?

Agreed, although I think it's a shame. Personally I'd love a new S3 or an A4 with the same engine (a 270 hp version of the 2.0T engine).
