It's about time....
« on: October 31, 2007, 04:28:35 pm »
Well I've finally gone and done it. After spending 2 whole months shopping (and a lot of time waiting for the bus in the meantime) I've finally gotten a new car.

I'm tired and it's a long story so I'll just spill the important bits and give y'all a couple of pics and fill in the rest later.

After inspecting it my mechanic said "Somebody really loved this car."

To err is human, to blame it on someone else is even more human.

Beautiful.  I hope you enjoy yours as I did mine.  Does it have aftermarket juice?

Thanks everyone. ;D

Does it have aftermarket juice?

Considering the hoops I had to jump through to get insurance for this car after mentioning the modified suspension I shudder to think about the complications involved in buying a car with any engine modifications nowadays in Ontario. So I am rather thankful that aside from the aftermarket horn everything in the engine bay is completely stock, not that I wouldn't like more power but given the current insanity insurance practices here in Ontario if I want more power I think I will buy it OEM. :P

I knew the mods would cause trouble with the insurance process so I arranged it through an insurance broker for the first time and I'm glad I did.

Good stuff Wolfe.  I had the extra juice in mine and because I was with my insurance company for so long, they were willing to insure me at a reasonable markup.  They told me if I was a new guy with a car like that, they'd nail me to the wall and rip me a new one.

Driving impressions?

I have to figure out how to adjust the suspension settings. The ride is extremely firm at the moment.

With these tires it has waaay more grip than I'm used to. Yesterday and today have been fairly warm for this time of year (high teens) but that won't last so I need to get winter tires now. Thankfully, the old winter rims from my departed Nissan 240sx should fit the Miata.

Back in August this happened to my last car, I've been riding the bus (and car shopping) ever since.

What suspension setup do you have?  Try to look on top of the towers or underneath on the shocks themselves.

It's made by Koni but that's about all I know for sure at this point.

It's adjustable for firmness on top of the towers and the guy I bought it from said that he thought (but didn't know for sure) they are adjustable for height as well.

I haven't played with any of the adjustments yet at all.

From under the car it looked like this setup

Yeah, if they're Koni Yellows, they are excellent shocks.  I had them paired with H&R springs on my previous two cars (Prelude, Civic) and they were a beautiful combo.  A little stiff, but the improvements in handling over stock were huge.
