Add Volvo to the List
« on: October 29, 2007, 07:28:32 pm »
I was in a Volvo dealership in Maine today and they have been told they can not sell to Canadians. Subaru and Hyundai appear to be it for new cars with warranty  now. It's too bad too. They had a lovely 06 Ocean Race edition XC70 that had never been retailed (new with less than 600 miles and warranty clock not started) Original MSRP 45,900 marked down to 36,995 ??? They are also a Nissan dealer and the salesman said they have now been told they can sell Nissan. (Not sure I'd be interested with no warranty)
My first ever GM ownership experience  can best be described as   "Fool me once...."

Ford owns Volvo, that is expected.

So Subaru and Hyundai left, STi vs New Tiburon for the sporty crowd?

GM: NO

Volvo:  NO

Toyota:  NO

Lexus:  NO

Honda: NO

Nissan: Yes*      *but not Altima according to salesman???

This is accurate (at least according to Maine dealers I spoke with) as of Oct 29. I can't really comment on Chrysler because 1: I wasn't  interested in anything they build and 2: I believe they have the toughest stand on voiding warranty. (I believe they void warranty completely in BOTH US and Canada)

It seems more and more manufacturers are using the terms and conditions contained in their US Franchise agreements as their prefered way to attempt to prevent sales that result in imports of new US vehicles to Canada.

There are currently no restrictions on Ford warranty on either side of the border.

Volvo will still sell to Canadians. At least the larger dealers will. Also my local Volvo dealer says no problem with US sold Volvo in respect to warranty.

I just got off the phone with Infiniti Canada and they comfirmed that you can import Infiniti and they will honour the US warranty (not Nissan though)

Priced equally equipped G37 Coupe M6 wtih Premium package $40,015 US versus $51,600 CDN, $11,585 difference.. going to have to seriously consider that in the spring..

WOW you made me look.

G35 6speed Manual sedan with Sunroof (std in Canada optional in US)
Canada 48 140 + 14% hst =54 879
US 34 115 + 14% hst= 38, 891

After tax difference 15,988!

Even if you have to pay 2000 in duty (too lazy to check) plus another 3 K for fees, compliance with canada (which I don't think is a big issue in this car) and travel its any easy 10K.

What makes me more excited is that used ones may start to turn up under 30K in a year or so.

Volvo Canada announces new cash rebates for all buyers

Toronto, Ontario - Volvo Cars of Canada has announced that, effective yesterday, a new program will offer customers a rebate of up to $5,000 toward the purchase price of a Volvo, regardless if it is a cash, finance or lease transaction. The program covers the S40, S60, S80, V50, XC90, C30 and C70 models.

"Volvo Canada and its retailers review all customers equally," says Steve Blyth, President and CEO of Volvo Cars of Canada Corp. "The company will not offer an incentive program to cash-paying customers that is different than one offered to our finance or lease customers. This new rebate program will be available on the majority of Volvo vehicles to all customers, regardless of how they would like to conduct the transaction."

The incentive program is focused primarily on model-year 2008 and remaining model-year 2007 vehicles, and offers different cash rebates according to the nameplate.

"This new cash rebate program, when combined with some of the industry's best lease and finance rates, gives potential Volvo customers a compelling reason to visit a Volvo retailer in Canada," Blyth says. "We have lease rates starting from 2.9 per cent and finance rates starting from 3.9 per cent.

"We realize Canadians are looking to the U.S. market and comparing prices of vehicles with the same nameplate. We hope they also notice that Canadian Volvo vehicles have a longer list of standard equipment, a more comprehensive warranty offer and a retailer network equipped with parts to service built-for-Canada vehicles. That said, we recognize that the price is perhaps the most important factor in a purchase decision. Our plan is that this new rebate program will help customers avoid considering the added cost, hassle, time and intricacies of importing a vehicle from south of the border."

Volvo Canada announces new cash rebates for all buyers

Now that's a better program!

They had aggressive rates on their vehicles, was looking at a C30 and 0.9% already. Combine this - probably not much rebate on the C30, but still - and it's looking good.
AQUAMAN64 also posts on BDFD.com!

A step in the right direction but not enough:

A new 2008 XC70 loaded to the hilt in the States is about $53k CAN with GST. $64ish with GST in CAN. :o

I fired off a letter to the President of Volvo Canada what "built for Canada" meant. When I bought my Volvo V70R I had to pay extra for the dealer installed block heater and mudflaps. ;D

According to this article http://www.canada.com/northshorenews/news/story.html?id=1ad97d63-b707-432a-83ce-6336165741d9&k=96523 (I admit not the highest quality source, but it is a published newspaper) Lexus will warrenty a US car in Canada.
