why does my clutch squick when I depress it?

Cable or some hinge needs some lubrication?  Going up or down?  Or both?

Check the return spring on the pedal to see that any lube point is lubed if there is one on it.  :)

I don't think a squeaky sound means it's fried.  If it's fried, you notice it slip.
