New Sonata - well not quite yet, but very soon
« on: October 27, 2007, 03:39:17 pm »
Hello, mostly a lurker here, but thought I'd post that my wife and I finally picked out a car.  We've been looking mostly at the 07 Accord and the 08 Sonata but finally made the decision on an 08 Sonata GLS I4.  For the price you get some nice extras, more spacious, larger trunk, leather/heated seats, and 40/60 folding rear seats.  We also preferred driving it to the accord, so in the end the decision was easy.  Only thing I was worried about was the resale value and reliability.  The longer warranty helps with reliability and the lower price with extra features helped reduce concerns over the resale value.  We get the car on Wednesday and I'll post a couple of pics then.

We were pretty happy with the price.  Eligible for the Grad rebate of 500, then there were 1000 in factory dollars.  We paid MSRP, but were given a generous amount for our trade-in instead (800-1000 more than I was expecting).  The 0.9% financing over 5 years is quite nice too.  We had thought about waiting a few more months hoping for 0 percent financing and a slightly better deal, but we were getting quite anxious for that new car smell.

I've gotten a lot of useful tips regarding car buying on this site, so thanks for the help.  Now, I just have to read up on rust proofing and extras and once again convince myself that these things are overpriced at the dealer and to turn them all down!

Congrats, and you are right, rustproofing and extras are unnecessary and overcharged at dealers. Just practice saying NO!
