Of turn left on a green when the other guy isn't paying attention.....   ::)

I'm eagerly awaiting next years traffic fatalities stats.  That will pretty much prove the new law has done nothing...

During the same time spread, I wonder how many drunk drivers they arrested?

Drivers caught street racing, stunt driving, or speeding more than 50 km/h over the posted limit ...

not your average traffic infractions.

Yes, if the other side is sleeping.

I had this happen to me last week, I didn't turn but man I sat there at a green light for no apparent reason for what felt like an eternity while grandpa was dozing.

I did a poll at work.  Approx. 60 people.  Asked if they did this on a regular basis (once a week).  100% said yes.

So my shop is populated by 100% street racers.....cool place to work, eh??

Only if you are sitting at a red and the light turns green.  You cannot turn before the other side proceeds through (no racing them through).  I understand the idea in theory, sometimes yahoo's are just in a hurry, but sometimes the other side is completely asleep.

^^Agreed.  Here there are several intersections where one side is longer than the other.  You have plenty of time to go through, even at a leisurely pace.  I have seen police do this at these as well.  I just waiting to see them do it again...have my video cam cell phone ready to catch them "street racing" in action.... :popo:

Someone did this the other day when I was a couple of cars back from the guy sleeping at the front of the line. What did I do?? Nothing. It's called common sense. Most of us have it and use it. I know you guys find that hard to believe.

But hey, let's bash the cops some more shall we??

or maybe you'll catch them trying to get to a domestic or break and enter...But hey, whatever makes you feel good.  ::)

In a way it does make sense, but its just horribly impractical imo...

People make these sorts of judgment calls all the time. The next logical step would be to ban turning left out of a parking lot because you have to "race" the oncoming car and get into the middle / right before he T-bones you.
Everything in life is relative.

With no flashing lights?  My police friend here said generally, if he is going to break traffic law en route, he hits the lights.  Is that the rule across the board?

We don't go everywhere with flashing lights. It confuses people more than it moves them.

Even if you are running lights or making illegal left turns?  At any rate, I can bet you 99 times out of 100 if I did the left turn thing in my Supra (maybe in front of you even) I'd get pulled over...likely get away with it in the Echo I suppose....

Running lights is different. The lights and siren are supposed to be on all the time. However, the rules sometimes get broken. If I'm a block away from a break and enter in progress in the middle of the night and there's no one around I'm sure not going to turn my siren on and let the bad guy know I'm around the corner. Speed and stealthiness are important in that situation.

Yes, we break rules. But 99 times out of 100 ( to use your odds) we're doing it for a good reason and not because the fresh donuts are out like some people like to beleive. If it was your mother or girlfriend on the other end of the 911 call wouldn't you want us getting there as fast as possible?? ??
