I been in the Oshawa truck plant, it looks like a nice place to work

It looks nice, doesn't mean it is nice.  Try screwing the same piece together for 8 hours a day, 6 days a week.  It does something to ppl.  Drool  In GM plants workers are required to do unnecessary labour which puts great stress on their bodies.  In the Camry plant and similar Toyotas plants the hood and doors are removed after the paint shop.  The windshields, front and back go in after the car is made.  At GM when a worker installs a headliner, sunroof controls, etc., they climb inside the car and squat down and reach above their heads.  It's hard on the back, neck, etc..  In the Toyota plant a worker lies down on a thin lazy boy and a computer control extenda lift slides them thru the front and back.  Same with the sides.  Many ppl in Toyota plants are physically supported when working.  Every 2 hours the switch jobs.  No seniority in Toyota plants = better assembly.  Smiley

NO UAW plants open to public and for good reason.

Why do you say this

Because when they open it to the general public they can't control the cat calling and obscene language as CAW or UAW workers cannot be fired for something like that.

There are no "open to the general public daily tours" in any domestic union plant.  Figure it out why not  Huh  Can't be bad for marketing or can it?   Smiley

Hmm,
Court rules Toyota employee worked to death

Reuters
November 30, 2007 - 5:55 am ET

TOKYO (Reuters) -- A Toyota Motor Corp. employee died of overwork after logging more than 106 hours of overtime in a month, a judge ruled today, reversing a ministry's earlier decision not to pay compensation to his widow.

The Toyota Labor Standards Inspection office, a local branch of Japan's labor ministry, refused to pay the widow the usual compensation for a spouse's work-related death, saying the man had only logged 45 hours of overtime in the month before he died, Japanese media reported.

But the court ruled that the employee had worked far more than that, said Yomiuri Online, a Japanese news Web site. The Nagoya District Court in central Japan said the ruling overturned the labor ministry's decision.

The Japanese have a bad habit of dying on the job.  Cultural thing me thinks.

Has Toyota done anything for 2008 in relation to the load strength of their tailgates??

I hear they have upgraded the steel used to be the cans from Campbell's "Chunky" soup brand instead of the regular Campbell's they were using.   Wink

Steve  seems the issue is Japanese Toyota corporate culture thing me thinks.  Pretty much mirrors western world culture and does not appear as humane as some like to preach. Tongue

Looks and feels the same as 2007.  They aren't the same as 20 years ago when one could hardly carry one.  To damage one something heavy would need to be dropped on it.

http://www.tundraheadquarters.com/blog/2007/11/12/tundra-tailgate-problems-toyota-internal-memo/

''We’re not sure if this is will be old news to some of you, but Toyota released a memo to their dealers regarding problems with Toyota Tundra tailgates in the last week or so. We finally got our hands on it, and you can read the memo for yourself by clicking on the image below.

Click image to see full-size memo. Make sure to hover over full-size image when it opens - your browser may shrink it.

The memo speaks for itself, but we thought the phrase “there is no industry standard or consensus regarding tailgate load capacity” was especially interesting. The way we read that sentence, it sounds like Toyota is saying “we can make this truck any way we want to.” Hardly seems like an appropriate response, especially considering the truck is advertised as being the toughest thing on the road.

Here’s an idea: Make the tailgate strong enough so that the welds don’t split when someone loads an atv in the back.

As for the Tundra’s tailgate popping off it’s hinge if you drive with it “down” position, Toyota’s official response is that the manual states you shouldn’t drive with the tailgate down unless it’s secured in that position by the load or a bed extender. Too bad that Toyota’s stance ignores the fact they’ve advertised using the truck with the tailgate down:

Click on the picture to see the full-size image. Look at the sentence towards the bottom to see where Toyota advocates driving with the tailgate down. Thanks again to Glenn for bringing this issue to light.

As far as recalling or replacing tailgates, Toyota says they’ll investigate. Translation — if you make a big enough stink about it, you might get some consideration. If you want to know the best way to create a stink, checkout our Toyota Customer Service Tips post."

That's if there is a problem.  Smiley

I've never seen a Tundra tailgate of any year come back on warranty.  However, I bent the tailgate in my 07 Taco loading ATVs so much so it wouldn't close.  Real turd that was.

PPL can post all the anonymous allegations on BBS all they want.  The fact is that the new Tundras are the best 1/2 ton on the market.  Toyota USA now has 0%/60mths on the remaining 07s so Toyota just may make their target of 200,000 units sold in the USA.

The diesels are coming in the 2500 and 3500 series.  I dunno if they will be HINO inline 6 or ISUZU V10 or a combo, but when they come FORD and GM diesel pickups will be DOOMED.  Both Ford and GM offer mediocre diesels for "full or extended warranty use only" because they are such unreliable units outside of warranty.  Other than the Cummings, the domestics haven't made a good diesel EVER.

PPL need to get over the Toyota jugernaught.  They are just supplying the market with product that the domestics can not.

There is no problem!  Our tailgates are fantastic!

Why don't you just respond to every post by saying "I have a job selling Toyotas, and therefore I will always say they're the best and never admit any faults"?  It would save you, and the people responding to you, quite a lot of typing time.

If you had seen Tundra tailgates come back on warranty, would you say so?  Or would you just continue with the "everybody should buy Toyota" rhetoric that is increasingly transparent?

"I have a job selling Toyotas

I don't sell them, I just drive them. FREE  Grin

Of course.  I haven't seen a bad tranny on any V6 Camry or Tundra either.  Nada ONE.

The tailgate on the Taco, like you know, is pretty flimsy.  That got warrantied and then sold.  Smiley

Folks should just accept the fact that very little bad sh*t happens to Toyotas.  That's why the sell so well.  As the standard of living falls and gas prices rise in the USA ppl there are going to be even more discriminating on what they buy.  The party is over.  Americans will soon mimic the buying habits of Canadians; smaller cars that stay out of the service bay.

Most ppl on this BBS probably have no idea that the FJ Cruiser, just to name one unit, was actually designed and is built by Hino as we type.  If ppl are whining about the Tundra tailgate design then E-mail HINO.

Those Hino I-6 make awesome TQ.  Their "base" I-6 makes like 525TQ........

Indeed, indestructible million mile motors.  That is what Ford and GM are facing.  Shocked

The unit they are playing with at the SEMA show:

8.0-liter Hino inline-6 engine shoehorned under the hood of this CrewMax has been built to pull a 35,000-pound commercial truck to the dump, not get your pickup truck to Home Depot. It's rated at 256 horsepower at 2,500 rpm and 745-pound-feet of torque at 1,500 rpm. Unsurprisingly, the Tundra now uses an Eaton five-speed manual truck (a real truck) transmission, and the rear end from a Hino commercial truck.
