GMC TRUCK- STEERING CLUNK
« on: October 23, 2007, 02:44:05 pm »
I OWN A '03 GMC 2500HD DURAMAX/ALLISON -EXTENDED WARRANTY WAS 4 YR/120 KM.
ANYONE HAVING A PROBLEM WITH A CLUNKING IN THE STEERING WHEN ON A TURN?
COMPLAINED TWICE UNDER WARRANTY AND HAD A "GM LUB KIT#26098419AS FOR TEMPORARY REPAIR" INSTALLED ONCE.
THEY STATED ON Y REPAIR BILL, "CLUNKING IN THE INTERMEDITE SHAFT INHERENT IN THE DESIGN #PSB 00-02-35-003K".
THE NOISE COMES BACK AFTER 5000KM.
I HEAR THEY NOW REPLACE WITH A NEWLY DESIGNED UNIT SO I CONTACTED DEALER AND GM. MY REPLY WAS TOO BAD, YOU ARE PAST WARRANTY.
DO WE NEED A CLASS ACTION??
EXTEND THE WARRANTY LIKE THEY DID WITH THE INJECTOR PROBLEM?
ANY IDEAS??

Perhaps you could try another dealership?

This has probably been discussed in a GM truck specific forum somewhere in the wilds of the internet.

Oh, yeah. On the GM site I visit every now and then, it seems every day there's a new post about the infamous "Steering Shaft Clunk."

Here's a 12-page thread to get you started.  ;)  http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=60267&hl=steering&st=0

GM has a wee bit of a financial problem if you haven't noticed.  They'll jack you on warranty at the drop of a hat.

My father-in-law got burned on his LeSabre with the GM extended warranty.  It was 5 years old with 40K km.  Power steering pump failure.  He noticed the steering was hard.  Drove to dealer which is a few kms from his house.  Dealer never went into EXACT details, just said that the pump failed, but since he drove it in and did not tow it, it was his fault.  Warranty denied.  This summer he bought a loaded Sonota.  Although he's 84 and probably will not by any other car, don't ask him about GMs.  The stupid thing is that he took the car to the dealer for all service like brakes, coolant, etc. and they really nailed him each time (cash cow).  Even lost his coveted  service booklet and brushed it off.

GM does not stand behind their vehicles.  They have so many exclusions in their warranties they're a joke.  They have no cash for good will so their warranty centers take a really hard line.

Dealer was OLD MILL Pontiac Buick in Toronto's central west end.  AVOID.  :P

The mind boggles.

Sounds like he couldn't trust your shop or knowledge to fix it Steve so he kept on going to the dealership. Sounds like a smart man your Father-in-law. I would contact GM's Hotline No to see if they can do anything regarding the front clunk SirerraMan1. Explain that you have paid once already and expect better service then that. You might be surprised as theirs obviously a TSB out on this problem. Never hurts to try. Did they give you any reason what the fault is  at all?  I have read thru the entire site and there is a permanent fix on this problem which has been out for months. I find it strange you haven't had it done as yet yet continue on driving the vehicle the way it is. It has NOT been deemed a safety issue at all as NO-one has lost control of their vehicle at all out of the many thousands who have had this problem. The Canadian MTO would be all over it if it was and we know it as well. :)

Well why would Steve even bother touching it if it had a genuine GM extended warranty??  Everytime I did some little thing to Trish's car, I was worried they'd deny warranty work. (ie. "We're sorry, it appears that you greased the hood latch. Since you aren't a mechanic, we'll have to deny the warranty on your blown intake gasket")
How fast is my Supra?  I sh*t on Cessnas from a roll....

Thank you.  Besides he's in Toronto and I'm 220 km away.  :bang:

His son is a CA and even he couldn't get anywhere with GM in Oshawa.  The result was that, as usual, the dealer fixed it at his expense.  They suggested, as if doing him a favour,  ::) that they put in a NON OEM pump as the GM unit was pricey.  ::)   Sure it's pricey with their huge mark-up.  :P  Anyways, the aftermarket unit doesn't work right, but it turns the front wheels.

It's all moot now because it's the second unit driven only as a last resort and never on the highway because it has bad steering wander.  No wonder GM continues to lose car sales. They're parts are CRAP.  Walmart style procurement;  lowest possible price is all they think about and that has not changed.  If it wasn't for 0% financing they'd TANK.   :)

Currently reminds me of Toyota and their parts bin as well. At least the GM parts bin is getting better and not worse like the Big T is.  :)

I believe they have the 39th Billionth spot all to themselves.  :)

GM loss far worse than expected
No. 1 U.S. automaker sees much bigger operating loss than forecast as huge charge results in $39 billion net loss in period.

They have one of the longest warranties in the business but you aren't knowledgable of it in any way. Just like anything else from GM you don't have a clue and continue to tell some very blatant lies regarding their products. They took that hit for a totally different reason but obviously you can't read correctly either anything in the paper. They are still No.1 in the world and haven't been beat yet so don't let the jealousy keep your mouth flapping with more lies. Are you still denying all of the Toyota recalls Steve?  :) ;) ::)

That loss was for only 4 months.  :o

GM has 39 BILLION ways, exclusions, special requirements and hurdles to make collecting on any of their warranties an exercise in fustration.  Look what they did to the original poster and he had the extended warranty.  ::) :P

But it's gone away now. WooHoo!

This page includes many great things to see and do if you are contemplating the purchase of a Chevy or GMC Suburban.

You can…

Thrill to the excitement of faulty brakes!

Experience the wonder of breaking down in Utah on a Sunday afternoon!

Marvel at the cut and thrust of verbal duels with callous General Motors representatives!

Enter the 'which piece of plastic crap is going to fall off next' sweepstakes.

Cringe in terror at a tale of driving around with a fuel leak, corroded battery cables and a short circuit!

And much, much more.

Its about time you supplied some links or something to back up your slandering a large Corporation as as usual you don't have a clue on their products or anything about how they do business at all. Just how Stupid are you really as its is getting pretty thick on here. I am sure like most posters who are wondering just how stupid you really are for stating such things as you really are a fool. A moronic one at that as well.  :) ;D  :rofl2:

Steve is that your brain he is holding as its too large for you to handle if it is. Its funny that the other companies have many more then one complaint about many things that their dealers have done so for you to point out one single problem is really pushing the limit of intelligence. Its was over 20 camshafts alone wasen't it? let alone many other problems one of the other companies is having at the moment? Voted the winner one month and loser the next is what has happened so it must bug you badly that it wasen't Gm that has had this problem.  Keep trolling as thats all you are doing. :) ;D ;)
