Dockman and the New Acadia
« on: October 21, 2007, 08:38:47 pm »
The SRX went back on Tuesday....waiting for me at the same time was my brand spankin' 2007 white GMC Acadia SLT AWD.

It is not the machine that the SRX was for driving, but it has a much nicer interior. My SRX was of the 2004 really ugly interior vintage.

It has every option available save a cost option paint colour. I also got the dealership to throw in a Parrot LS-3200 Bluetooth module. I works seamlessly with Nav and audio system muting the sound and routing the audio through the car's factory system. Really slick so far.

The vehicle itself is really nice. I haven't had the opportunity to test the nav system well yet, but I can tell you that it is going to have it's work cut out for it considering that my Nuvi 360 was a slick unit to work with.
Got my temporary insurance slip from my broker and chuckled to find out that they have me in a brand new 2007 Acadian.  :rofl2:

Interior is black and it took all of 22 seconds for the kids to scuff up all the leather with their shoes, we took a couple of family drives in it this weekend and it does not hold a candle to the mini-van for hauling the kids and car-seats about. Nothing beats sliding doors and the interior room of the GCaravan.

I'm liking XM radio and the heads up display and also very fond of the interior layout and comfort level. It is a very pleasurable space to spend time in.

I will post pictures soon. It's shaping up to be a busy week. It is a nice ride.

The day I picked up the Acadia(n) the new 08 ink blue fully loaded Edge Limited that the local ford dealer ordered on spec for me arrived a the dealership. It is a much sexier vehicle on the outside...hands down, but I am very happy with the interior of the Acadia.

Inco....are you still enamoured of yours. I have some acquaintances in town who have said that their Acadia has been a royal PITA having many components swapped out under warranty and lots of time in the shop.

Hey, DockMan, congrats, didn't even know you were shopping - shows how attentive I am. Anyway, great color, and the new Acadian is a good looking rig. Looking forward to the pix.

Again, we have all been tricked, thinking this thread would be full of pictures.  >:(  ;)

Congrats, and its surprising how a GMC has a better interior than a Cadillac.

Whats the story behind the Ford Edge?  ???

Good choice.  My time in inco's had me extremely impressed.  GM worked hard on the Acadia.  It shows.  :thumbup:

I also have had the pleasure of riding in Inco's really sweet new Arcadia with MD as well. I do agree with his assessment of it for sure. The vehicle did run nice and was very comfortable with a solid smooth ride as well. Certainly didn't lack for power it seemed either as we did go for a ride for about a hour in total in Toronto in it. Congrats Dockman on buying a nice vehicle which I do think will serve you well for many years. I have seen the white and it does look really good in that colour. The Caddie version is more money and I also believe a smaller unit also.  :)

Is this the new trend in Show'n'Shine--no pics?

Congrats Dockman.  You didn't make the kids take off their shoes?   :)

Who are you and what have you done with the real Barrie, the one who is all into GM?  It's Acadia, not Arcadia, and there's a Buick version, not a Cadillac version.

Lawyers - geez.  :rofl2: ;D

Congrats D-man. It looks good in white too but I feel bad because so far I have had no issues other than what we thought might be an alignment issue. Took it in last week and no problem.

Gas consumption is about 13-14 per 100 around town which is about 21 mpg and I'm happy about that. Need a road trip soon to see how low it can go.

At first I had issues with the tranny shifting so often. It learned and adapted to my driving and now it's fine. I did add a little 'tude to it via Mario's next best friend and it did add some stature, but maybe I need to remove the two resonators to take advantage of all that additional 'power'. My SIL would hate me, but a guy has to do what a guy has to do. stay tuned.

I think you will really enjoy yours - I too liked the HUD and wish I had that.

GM has hit one out of the ballpark with the Acadia and it's brethren.  Nice rig!

Whats the story behind the Ford Edge?  ???

I had whittled the options down the Acadia and the Edge. Two Ford dealers actually ordered my specification 2008 model so that I could drive it, without any obligation on my part. Their reasoning was that the vehicle I wanted was a great looker to have on the lot if I decided against it.

The local GM dealer, whom I have a good history with, put the hard sell on me in the final weeks for the Acadia. They dropped their pants on price and threw in the Bluetooth unit as that was a major :censor: with me regarding new GM vehicles. With no Edge to touch/feel/drive, I couldn't hold out. I must admit that I talk a big story, and have actually purchased some other brands, but late at night when the only one I'm responsible to is myself..... I have to say that I revel in GM's successes and suffer with their failures. I have grown up in the industry with GM as my primary customer and feel a very personal association and commitment to supporting their product. In addition the local GM dealer has taken very good care of me in regards to service and such, I have yet to get that level of service from any other manufacturer and my experience includes Honda (arrogant staff), Subaru (just plain cheap), Chrysler (adequate, but not over the top).

The things I liked about the edge though were the exterior styling, feel (07 SEL) and Sync System.

Acadia = Better looking interior
Edge = Better looking exterior

Acadia = more vehicle, can fit my whole family
Edge = Smaller, more nimble driving feel
