Baby seat was one of the big reasons for my wife swapping from the V40 to the XC70.  Those seats are HUGE.

ok ok.  i have to admit, i have test driven a lot of different cars in many life but had stuck with one company when it came down to buying.  that company was honda.   but then, for quite a long period of time, honda decided to build the dullest cars in the universe.  and then they broke my spirit by thinking suvs could replace hatches and wagons.  this is when i said ok honda/acura goodbye.    it has been 8 months since i bought my a4 wagon and all i can say is wow.   this 3.2L engine rocks.  awd rocks. wagons rock.   (take note mazda and all you suv drivers) these seats, guess what......rock  i really love the driving dynamics of this car.  i love that this car looks great.  that rocks. ok now i am nervous.  please audi gods, don't let me down.   :P

A Cosco Aplpha Omega with the adjustable base removed is a compact package. Best I have found so far.

You may be able to squeeze 6 months depending on the heft/length of your screaming bundle of joy. At 6 months I switched my youngest into a rear facing Cosco Alpha Omega. With the adjustable base in place there was too much interference with the driver's seat and it covered the seatbelt recepticles for the outboard rear seat passengers. A careful read of the manual revealed that "for smaller cars remove the adjustable base". This makes the seat very liveablle in the V70.

With the baby seat in the middle and base removed (secured by belt) we are able to utilize the two outboard seats with the integrated booster seats. Three kids under 6 in the rear seat and enough cargo room for a two week holiday, who would have thought a medium sized car could pull that off..

actually, having owned this car for 9 months now, i can now totally understand why people prefer european cars over japanese.    it seems that over the years as the japanese have gone up market and have become the most durable, well build vehicles in the world they have lost that feel which a driver's car needs.  i remember my crx si.  it was a go kart.  totally raw.  i could feel every bump through the steering wheel.  the sound was great, and as i moved forward to eventually buying the tsx, slowly i lost that feel for the road.  don't get me wrong,  i think the tsx is the best sedan honda has to offer and i believe it is one of the best the japanese have to offer.  unfortunately, so many other japanese cars run like sewing machines but have no character.  (i blame this on the american market.  :P   note to my japanese friends.  no, not all north americans want soft, big, fat, gas guzzling boats.  thank you. mazda that means you!!!!  bring the freakin mazda 6 wagon and the mazda 2! )

Hi...

I totally agree kevlar, Avants are by far, sexier than saloons, it's a shame you guys don't get the RS4/RS6 Avant choice, those cars look sooo cool, have rude power, and are practical too.  That said, the S4 Avant, which you can buy, is also a stonker of a car.

It was a smart move buying slightly used too.

I also agree that Japanese motors have lost their edge.  Once upon a time they were such a fully loaded, enthusiasts bargains, now, compared to European alternatives, they are over priced A-B dullard machines.

I'm looking forward to the new shape RS4, RS5, & RS7's, they, IMHO, will be truly stunning.

As I've said before, Audi = class.

M.

Forget "Top Gear" with the egocentric Jeremy Clarkson and his grovellingly emetic sidekicks "we're more important than the cars 'cos we unconvincingly laugh at one-anothers lame & poorly scripted jokes" crap. Fifth Gear is the best motoring program on TV.  http://fifthgear.five.tv ...& click video

I have heard the word 'stanker' before and now we have "stonker"

Either way both mean good - I think, and yes the Avant is miles above style wise, anything out of Japan, Korea, China or even North America.

Japanese cars are mundane but they are reliable as Halifax most of the time and people turn to them for that.

:iagree:   Perhaps they've become too competent eh?

Here's a quote from Jeremy Clarkson -- "I drove it a bit harder.  And then a bit harder still.  And still it refused to reveal its hand.  It was like driving a car that had fallen asleep.  Like there was nothing that me, a mere human being, could do that would cause it to break into a sweat."

This...on the Nissan GT-R.
If it flies, floats or f#%&s...rent it.
