I went for a little jaunt to the usa chscking car prices. i love the way they do biz & price their cars. Hyundai dealer will sell ya a Santa fe or new veracruz at his cost minus any rebates. Honda Ridgelines & Toyota same deal but the Yota,s just got shut down selling to Canadians. they are getting their sales reps to license em for about a month & reselling em as used to skirt the issue.

Hyundai Santa fe le full load with leather = $28,600-$1500 rebate no other fees
Base awd Vera cruz $31,875-$1750 = $30,125
Toyota Rav 4 sport V-6 prelicensed demo (3200 miles) $23,500
Base Honda ridgeline AWD     $26,250
Best deal was low mileage used 07 Highlander limiteds at $24,000. No doc fees or other BS charges plus they will fax customs ahead & meet you at the border!

I hadn't heard about the actual dealer interaction down there...  interesting they're willing to sell at cost, especially if they knew you were Canadian.  A dealer can normally afford to sell at cost, since most of their money comes form servicing anyway, but if they knew you were Canadians it means they knew you wouldn't be coming to them for servicing...  interesting.

I guess with sites like Edmunds posting invoice costs for free, a lot more consumers are aware of pricing, so its harder to get away with the stuff they do in Canada.

I was offered $500 under cost and an extra $1500 manufacturer's rebate on a Legacy way back when, and they knew I was an importer/exporter...

Fairly certain there is profit behind the invoice cost, kickback or something or other.
Everything in life is relative.

You gotta understand the cost structure down there.  When they say "their" cost minus all factory incentives they are still making a good profit.  They buy in huge volumes.  Not uncommon to find a dealership part of a 200 dealer power group.  We are so f**ked up here in comparison.  :P
