yes I see that the 215-70-16 would be the better match.
The problem is I already have 235 rims and thus felt that the 225s would fit better on those rims than the skinnier 215s............    The second issue is that CTC does not seem to carry the 215 70 16, but they do have the 225 70 16 (although General tire checking their website, makes both).

Am I off base on rim matching??

The 225/70R16's are a better match load carrying capacity wise.  That means you'll get better fuel economy, durability, and wear compared to the 215's.

I did notice the load difference but knowing squat about rims and tires what you say seems to make intuitive sense.

So I can conclude that the 225s are well within the 3% difference figure (1.3), are slightly skinnier (not a bad thing for winter tires), and are reasonable fit for loading etc...

The question remains, will I be able to use my winter rims, that previously had 235s,  for the size 225 tires????
