Well, I've decided on the Nokian WR's for my wifes Odyssey.

I wanted the WRG2's however, apparently they won't arrive to N.America for a few months, so WR's it is.

I'm getting them for $145/each, installed for 225/60/16 from a local shop.  Most other places were quoting between $179 - $200.  In fact, the best price I could find from a U.S. retailer was $141 (before shipping).

I just hope they last with my French Canadian wife behind the wheel.

First of all much thanks to all of you. Disparate questions and their answers helped the confusion.

Morty, you are earning loads of goodwill by the way you answer questions and plugging of your competitors in your sponsored forum knowing well that you aren't going to get a sale out of it.

A few private tips and queries helped as well.

I've got the tires installed on my car. These are Nokian WR G2, $136 per tire minus the credit for the old tires.

Changed from 215/60/16 94V stock All Seasons

to the Nokian WR G2, 215/60/16 99H XL

Let see how it works out, according to the shop, these tires should brake better than the regular WR.

I hope to drive them throughout the first year atleast. If these annoy me in summer driving then I'll get 17inch alloys for the summer. (My wife's input is important in this, if she doesn't like the summer driving on these.)

The Nokians are my birthday gift. The alloys next year if that happens would be my 5 year anniversary gift.
All my gift credits are being used up.  :)

I am thinking of getting winter tires too. This is my wife's first winter and she would be driving on a lot of RR's (Regional Road's) and i am not sure how well they are plowed in winter.

Can i get dedicated winter tires for around 125$tax in which perform better than the WR's. Else i am thinking of getting the WR's too. I had them on my sunfire and they were really good.

You live in the heart of the snow belt. You'll definitely get a lot of snow and specially driving on regional roads, my opinion would be winter tires if you don't have a problem storing them in your basement/garage.

I didn't have much problem with new all seasons on the Corolla, smaller, narrower tires. On the Camry the tires are quite wider and float more compared to the narrower tires for Sunfire/Corolla.

Guy used Nokian WR in Quebec City in the winter / year round and said they were good.

Anyways you can probably get real winters that price, including steelies, but you'll have to do some legwork.

My understanding after sifting through a lot of reviews/information about the Nokian WR is that its a Performance Winter type of tire with a little bit more capability/tolerance towards dry weather driving. It has the severe winter service emblem means ratified for winter use, its not as capable as a dedicated winter tire for sure.

Nokian WR G2 is the new iteration of this particular tire.

My decision to go with this tire is because most of my driving is within Toronto, roads/highways are plowed otherwise we call in the army.

Everything is plowed during the day because of the school buses.  It's the blowing snow that hard packs and then there is the issue of salt creating slush that then freezes.

Wally World is giving away a Dunlop dedicated snow for under $100. in your size.  This is the second year out for this tire and ppl tell me they work.  High slica content apparently.  Sticks to road well.  Wally World in Guelph can't be too bad.  :)

DiscountTireDirect had Hankook Icebear W300 for $66 in my size (205/60/16) a while back, steelies about $45, free shipping to NY state. Have to drive over and get them, then pay up the duties.

4 season tires are a compromise. Jack of all trades - master of none. Question shouldn't be are the WR's better than dedicated snow tires (they aren't) but are they good enough for the conditions you will encounter. For urban commuting in Toronto the answer is probably yes. For suburban commuting on secondary roads where you can't assume the plows and salt trucks will always get there before you dedicated winter tires are highly recommended. If you live outside the city, you probably have a basement or garage so storage of off season tires shouldn't be a problem.

With a bit over 300km on the new Nokians, I'm impressed so far. The weather has been miserable, light rain, cold wet pavement. Good stability on the highway speed lane changes and car brakes quicker.

Well most of it mostly owing to a new tires and from V-rated stock all-slipperies seasons.

My wife liked driving the car with these tires a lot.

I will do empty parking lot test later.  ;D

UmroAyyar, could you tell me where did you get the Nokian? I just got a quote today on the RSi and they're quite expensive. I'm looking for the size 205/55/16. The Toyo came with the Mazda3 isn't great about road noise..
