I will second your comments regarding this car's performance in snowy conditions, Mitlov. While I don't have stability control, I do have winter tires. The Jetta is rock solid going through wintry messes. I've often wondered if this doesn't have to do with the design/balance of the car? The weight, maybe? I'm out of my depth here, obviously, but maybe someone can shed some light on this. My old Audi A90 was the same way, and she didn't have winter tires or stability control. And, my tech advisor at VW said the same thing about his 2001 Golf.
Case in point: During the last big storm we had (30 cm/12"), I was heading to work. The plows had just gone by on the highway, and the exit lanes I had to use had an 18" high line of snow blocking them. Ahead of me on the right was an older Civic (1998?) with snow tires. The driver attempted to plow through at about 50 km/h, and jammed right up. Seeing this, I moved over to the left, dropped a gear, and took the higher edge of the pile at around the same speed. The Jetta slowed down, then bit through the pile, and got me to other side with nary a whimper nor a fishtail. Kinda fun, actually
