Is that a dent on the edge of your hood I see?

Yup, that's what the previous owner was hiding under that ugly bra  ::)  Along with several scratches in the paint, which I fixed.  Ripping off a stranger is one thing, but a coworker?  I paid extra because the car was in "flawless" condition.  Unfortunately, this guy is a partner and I'm an associate, so I can never call him on it.

I'd stick with the 1.8T.  I think a VR6 will make the front end heavier.   :)

In all seriousness, my wife and I are living paycheck to paycheck.  The last thing I'm gonna do right now is an engine swap.

I agree.   How about a new front plate with any one of:

Lawyer on board

It's always curious to me why everyone assumes that I, a vocal Democrat (and Obama supporter) is a staunch conservative...

As for the "lawyer on board," I like my car unvandalized, thankyouverymuch  ;D

By the way, the electronics gremlins previously mentioned all went away when I replaced the aging-and-weak battery.

The whole point is that you are NOT a conservative.   The first two slogans are so old as to just be amusing nowadays.
A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

Nice car Mitlov - and it would look even sharper if you put a light tint on the windows - say 35% - not too dark. That would set it off and stop some of those who might be curious as to what's inside.

However there is one big flaw to the pictures that should be there. Some SNOW. Come on up here and you can have some of mine. ;D

Which gremlins? All I remember was a stuck oil temp gauge.

That dent is bigger than I had last thought. :( Glad to see you're enjoying it nonetheless.

I've known people who say, with complete seriousness, that the South will rise again  :o

The temp gauge is actually supposed to always be at the exact center, it turns out.

I had had some intermittent stereo issues, and once or twice the stability control had failed to turn on (warning light when I drove around).  Neither were readily reproducable.  Both went away with a new battery.

We don't have money for that right now.  It's completely cosmetic, and the paint isn't damaged.

Dent and paint isn't damaged?

Use a Paintless Dent Removal service. We had some dents on our vehicles before, $50 to fix.  :)

I will second your comments regarding this car's performance in snowy conditions, Mitlov.  While I don't have stability control, I do have winter tires.  The Jetta is rock solid going through wintry messes.  I've often wondered if this doesn't have to do with the design/balance of the car?  The weight, maybe?  I'm out of my depth here, obviously, but maybe someone can shed some light on this.  My old Audi A90 was the same way, and she didn't have winter tires or stability control.  And, my tech advisor at VW said the same thing about his 2001 Golf.

Case in point:  During the last big storm we had (30 cm/12"), I was heading to work.  The plows had just gone by on the highway, and the exit lanes I had to use had an 18" high line of snow blocking them.  Ahead of me on the right was an older Civic (1998?) with snow tires.  The driver attempted to plow through at about 50 km/h, and jammed right up.  Seeing this, I moved over to the left, dropped a gear, and took the higher edge of the pile at around the same speed.  The Jetta slowed down, then bit through the pile, and got me to other side with nary a whimper nor a fishtail.  Kinda fun, actually  ;D.

Doesn't the Jetta weight a lot more?  Momentum was your friend?
