The Perils of Street Parking
« on: October 01, 2007, 04:22:13 pm »
The street I live on is a one wa.y and parking is on the left hand side.  I came out this morning and this was done to my car. (See picture).  No note, No phone call, No nothing.  Someone was obviously pulling out from behind me and did this.  There is NO WAY they wouldn't have known about it either.  I am NOT amused.

I can't get over the lack of responsibility of some people.  I'm trying not to get overly pissed about it but I think it's the fact that they didn't stop or leave a note that is really bothering me.

Thankfully the bumper is intact with no cracks or holes right through but some of the plastic has been shaved away.  They left a lot of their paint behind so it shouldn't be too hard to spot the vehicle responsible assuming they live around here.  (Metallic silver or grey judging from the flecks).

Question... Does anyone know of a reputable body shop in the Toronto area that does top notch work?

Thanks.

Wow.  That's not good.  Nobody owning up to their actions....a sad display by a presumably 'adult' driver.

They'll get theirs..... >:(

My street was the same but right hand parking. Athough there was room I never bothered to even apply for a permit I always drove into the lane and parked behind my gate.   Apart from nudges like yours there were far too many shattered side windows and broken mirrors on the street  on welfare cheque day to ever want to park there.

I hope you find the person who did it

I'd be walking the street looking for a car with similar damage on it and then finding out where they live.

Still sucks.

Bummer, that's the stuff that really pees on off. Totally irresponsibility. Chances of the perp being caught are next to zero unless someone witnessed it and got a plate number. Totally aggrevating for you, Wetson. I hate street parking but it comes with the territory I guess in the big cities.  :P

Bummer.   Silver car?   It wasn't me... :)

My bumper was fixed at Ploder's.  They were recommended by my insurance company.   They did a pretty good job as far as I can tell.   They even fixed the loose mudflap.  Here are the before and after pics.

I hate street parking. I hate parking where there's any other car in general cause this happens else where too.

At the doctor's once I saw some man in a minivan hit someone's jetta. Scraped the hell out of his own bumper but he only got the plates on the Jetta. He did move the Jetta back a bit when he did this. I was so shocked i didn't get his license plate down. I should have cause he could have done some damage to the other car's drive train.

That sucks Wetone. Perhaps using a motion activated game camera with night vision for $250 would be a worthwhile investment for street parking  :)

God, I feel your pain.  The Aerio has three major outdoor parking inflicted wounds.  Two involve dented sheetmetal.  The other is a huge scratch on the back bumper (which occured a week after the car had been repaired after having been rear-ended last spring...)

Sadly I don't have the resources to pay for all these repairs at the moment...

I feel for all here who have had similar insults inflicted upon one's chariot.  Makes me glad to have paid for the last indoor parking spot in my building.  I know all the people involved at least in passing and the person whose car is next to mine is an old friend of mine.  Small world syndrome strikes again.

Sorry to hear as well but I would be looking around for the car of course and speaking with the neabours if they had a visitor last night driving a car of this colour. I would also report it to the Police reporting centre and then when and if you do find the culprit they can be charged with leaving the scene of a accident which will hurt their pocket as well as their Insurance rates.  Might just make them think before running away Next time.  :)

I've got a quote of 350 from a reputable source to respray the front and rear bumper....  They're giving me a really good deal.

The worst thing is there is nothing you can do to prevent it. Even if you park in garage, you still have to go to public parking lots.  :-X

That really sucks Wetson.  The same thing happened to me.  I came home and then went to leave again about an our later only to find a large white scuff on the front left corner of my car.  Obviously some :censor: moron pulled in front of my car and scuffed my front with his/her side.  Needless to say no note or acknowledgment of any car.  I was so incredibly mad!  I'm not the violent type, but if I could have found that sack of :censor: I would have loved to smack him/her around for a bit.  >:(

Luckily for me, most of the white scuff was paint from the other car and it rubbed off with some rubbing compound.  I do have a couple of spots the size of a toonie where my paint is now completely gone on the side of my bumper but since it's plastic I decided to just live with it.
