Heard it on the radio this morning.

Not really, there isn't much space to speed like that, this happens as soon as people get out of town or find open stretches of road to release stress, may be.

50+ over the limit is a good benchmark IMO. Seems unnecessary.

The best story was about the youngster started crying when his mom's car got impounded, him being caught doing 174km/h.

I heard 41 people charged on the news this morning.

I was on the 400 northbound on Saturday....running @ 140kph w/traffic and 160-170kph passing traffic.  Guess its time to cut it off at 149kph  ;)

If someone can get their car up to 50km/h over in Toronto they should be rewarded, not penalized.  Hell, if you can get the car up to 50km/h period, you should get a reward.

Sudbury is not Toronto but I did not have my usual daily 240 kph run on the way to work. This sucks!

I think that they will catch more people doing 130 in an 80  than 150 in 100. I find those flat 2 laners  with real corners make my right foot itch  far more than when mixing it up with the 18 wheelers on the 401.

And of course they can have real fun with the sudden drops to 60 and 50 near the small towns... 110 in an 80 is a normal safe speed and suddenly you are doing 110 in a 60 and out pops the policeman.

:iagree: witnessed and been through the situation. Got to move with the flow.

Driving on Hwy 10 between Orangeville and Brampton is 110 (slow at times) on a 80km road.

The left two most lanes of my inbound flight to work on the 407 were noticably slower (<140kph).  I'll see how it is on the drive home when typically the left two most lanes are 150kph+.

I don't like the black and white nature of this new highway offensive.  Having said that, I will likely self impose a personal limit of 149kph :(

Didn't notice any difference in my drive today.   It was slow as usual.

It's not just 50 over. If they think you are driving dangerously they can charge you as well. So weaving in and out of traffic things like that.

As much as I hate people who weave in and out of traffic I do think this law leaves a bit too much freedom to the cops.

With two empty lanes on a four lane highway in front of me makes for a great commute in one area.

I noticed it too (eastbound 407 Applby to 403). Why would someone passing a 145kph traffic at 150kph be a streetracer (or whatever label they use to define 50kph over speed limit)? I would limit the scope of the offence to two conditions: "50kph over traffic flow" and "in busy traffic". I understand it will not be as clear-cut as "50 over limit", but at least it will be fair... Maybe, cops should be allowed to present video footage as a proof?
