06 Sonota All Seasons?
« on: September 26, 2007, 08:18:25 pm »
Ok, looking for suggestions to for my Sonota, 215-60-16.  Drive lots of KM's in lots of conditions, but drive fairly conservatively.  See some slick stuff on the 400 in the winter but I just can't do the winter tire thing yet.
So far the goodyear triple tread, and the michelin Xradial, have been suggested.  Any thoughts on these two, or others?

Thanks.

I'd consider the Yokohama Avid TRZ.  Excellent in water if not snow.  Comfy tire.
The Michelin HydroEdge has received good reviews.

Bridgestone also offers a good range of quality touring tires.  But then, none of them are exactly suited for winter.

How much mileage did you pull from your OEM tires?  Michelin Energy MXV4 like my '08?
Me Los Tabarnacos, Yeah, Yeah!

With your 06 Sonata, the tire that came with was a V-speed rating so you'd have to go with a V-rating or higher if going with an all-season tire.  Unfortunately the Goodyear TripleTred and the Yokohama TRZ will be out of the running.  Some good options would be the Michelin Pilot Exalto A/S if you're looking for a premium tire, or the Yokohama Avid H4S.  If you're looking for something a bit more cost effective, the Sumitomo HTR+ is an excellent option and a great tire.  I just put a set on a friend's car and he loves them.  I had a chance to drive the car and it was great.  We also offer a RoadHazard Warranty on all Sumitomo tires!

I have had both the Yoko Avid H4s and V4s and consider them to be an excellant tire. Much improved over the OEMs that came on the cars originally FWIW.

If I had to drive the 400 during the winter I wouldn't think about it without winter tires...it can become nasty in seconds at any time...not worth it IMO.

I agree with quadzilla - wouldn't want to use the all seasons on a road like the 400 down there. Summers and all seasons rubber is not soft like a real winter tire. False economy to do without winters if you have a daily commute like that.  :P

The slick stuff aside good all-seasons with durability would be: Goodyear TripleTread, Michelin Hydroedge and Yokohama Avid TRZ. All offer good all-season capability and long wear.
