Forget everything you thought you knew about the Cadillac CTS sedan. While you're at it, rethink what you've come to expect from Cadillac and even General Motors, too. The 2008 Cadillac CTS is that good.

Good handling, great steering feel, warm interior, 304 horsepower.  Sounds good to me.  And something I'd never thought I'd hear:

Quote
The 2008 Cadillac CTS really shines in the slalom. Lots of tire grip, effective chassis balance and steering that's both quick and precise all combine to produce a 67.0-mph performance.
"Geography has made us neighbors. History has made us friends. Economics has made us partners. And necessity has made us allies. Those whom nature hath so joined together, let no man put asunder. What unites us is far greater than what divides us." -- John F. Kennedy, addressing Canadian Parliament.

I think it looks good as well.    Its on my list especially as it comes with a proper transmission.... although I wonder about the resale with a manny tranny which I would not worry about with a BMW.
A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

I would like to see the Cdn pricing on this.

I have to say, that interior looks great. I try not to judge until I've sat inside and witnessed first hand, but this looks like a winner. I really like, as lame as it is, the way they integrated the climate control. It looks fabulous.

Tough competition in this segment. The toughest really, outside mid-sized family sedan.

When do these hit the dealerships? Before the snow flies I hope. ;D

True, but I'd have the same worry about a manual transmission Lexus or Mercedes.  Not many Lexus or Mercedes buyers out there want a 6MT.

Cdn prices $39000 to the very high $40s or early $50s

At least one dealer in TO supposedly had one on the sales floor last week.  My local dealer is expecting a couple in late October

Pretty glowing review.

I really need to sit inside a 3 and 5-Series, because I find the interior small on the new CTS. The styling is quite attractive though, and upscale in look. Dare I say stunning.

Noticed them at my local dealer at lunch.

A very nice offering from GM. I have always had a bit of a soft spot for the CTS. I quite like it. I think this is a logical/evolutionary step from earlier renditions which were shy in performance. GM have been even selling a few in the UK and Europe - although admittedly not very many in total. It's still quite a big car by many standards.

Ditto on the manual tranny - although I must admit that so long as it is available, I wouldn't have it any other way. My Father worked for more than 30 years for GM in St. Catharines He always wanted a Caddy - but this? Well - this is definitely not my Dad's Cadillac!

I thought the previous generations interiors were weak, but these seem greatly improved.

This car is like Dom Perignon.

Interior is mind blowing. The temperature displays and controls split wide is absolute design genious. The sliding LCD screen likewise. The lines are straight but it has no corners. The colours complement. The LED displays match the dash. It has three dimensions. Circular controls that aren't out of place. An analog clock that isn't ugly. Double stitched lines on the dash.

Whoever designed this interior does not get paid nearly enough.

Red is not the right colour though.

Hey mmret, I've never met anyone who owned a Cadillac and who said that it rattled.  Maybe we have a next car for you?

This would be one heck of a buy in a year or two on the used car market.

Everything about this car is stunning.  It has been added to the list of contenders to replace my Accord sedan when the lease is up.  Sweet looking car inside and out.  Even the quality looks miles above.  I have a feeling that this and the 08 Malibu are going to be a smashing success for GM.

As for the color, I agree that it looks wrong in red.  But here it is in gunmetal gray, and also silver, courtesy of Car and Driver:

Cadillac's US webpage now has the full page on the 2008 CTS up.  Check out the 360 degree rotation in the color of your choice.  "Black Raven" has massive Batmobile appeal.  I love it.

My only reservation is that it looks a bit "tall".

This would be one heck of a buy in a year or two on the used car market.

Indeed, indeed.
