Craig - "Finally, as new parents, we would prefer to surround our little bundle of joy with, if at all possible, a Sherman tank.  I like the X-Trail, I don't think it is an unsafe vehicle, but it is not as sunstantial in feel as, say, a Volvo.  Crazy Parent Syndrome?  Maybe."

Not picking on you, Craig, but that is exactly the reason that our streets, school areas and soccer field areas are jammed with Hummers, Escalades, BIG pick-ups, Suburbans, etc. It is not the correct answer to continue to build and buy bigger and bigger vehicles as any thinking person knows. It's a continually escalating (not pun intended) go-round.

I'm only talking about a metaphorical Sherman tank.  I would consider the X-Trail a rather light vehicle with a top-heavy appearance.  That said, I just started looking into crash test ratings for the X.  The Euro NCAP rating is four stars (out of five), so I'm a little more at ease (though that was for a side curtain airbag model).  I don't want a Hummer (down, Saf), but side curtain airbags would be nice.

You guys aren't particularly adept at detecting sarcasm, are you?

I said I wasn't picking on you, Craig, just using your comment (sarcastic or not) as an example of the thinking of a lot of ppl today, and IMO it's wrong-headed. Friends of ours in Vancouver recently went from a mid-sized car to a Grand Cherokee for the wife to drive. They never go anywhere but around Vancouver. I asked them why they got the GC, and the answer was "Well, isn't that what all the women are driving so they are safer".  ::) ::)

It's an argument that has been beaten to death on here, and I certainly didn't mean to insult you, Craig. But the thinking is perverse, just like the "Baby on Board" signs.

Well...when a man loves a woman very much...

Oh, "when", not "how".

June 20th.  Sorry, I'm terrible at announcing things.

I don't really come here to talk about kids.  She's a cutie, and I spend lots of time with her, but I dunno - I just didn't run around announcing her arrival.

An upcoming car purchase, however, is something you announce well in advance.  Well, here, anyway.

I also had an idea to write a series of pieces on "the search".  Don't really have the time, but I enjoyed chronicling the TSX purchase, and that was a quick decision.  I figure if I draw it out, I could have much more fun.

Congrats.  Couldn't you have waited one more day?  She could have the same birthday as Brig.  ;D

 :o You're a new Dad, congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!

I had forgotten about the recent slashes in price for a new X-Trail. SirAqua's idea sounds interesting.....

Hey, a new car's not a bad idea either. Be sure to chronicle your "new car buying, maybe" adventure here, we will love to read it, as you know....  ;D

By the way, was at the Georgian Auto Show this past Saturday. Me really like the Veracruz now....

Sat in the Acadia too. Nice interior, but a little more imposing in size than I had imagined...
