Are you kidding me. No one is directing me anywhere there just complaining.
I did a bunch of searches and I couldn't find very much information about Canadians who have actually purchased cars in the US.
Especial not in the last couple of months. There is allot of talk about how to do it and a few people talking about there American bought Subarus but not much else. It may be out there but I can't find it, nor can I read every post ever posted here.
It is my understanding that if I want to start a new thread I can and I did.
You don't have to read it and you certainly don't have to post into it.
In a world where the dead are returning to life, the word "trouble" loses much of its meaning.

Type “buying a car in the US” and this is what you get:
http://www.canadiandriver.com/forum/index.php?action=search2

The search function on this forum is one step behind hammer and chisel. I rarely use it.

You changed your original question. I don't recall it being as specific as this one is. It sounded like another one asking people the same questions that have been asked before.

You attack people in real life like the way you do here? (Get the Yaris out of here, guy with 9000 posts has nothing good to say)

I hear this forum came into existence only once I joined.

PBKAC (problem between keyboard and chair).

If you use the search function within a thread or a topic or a section it searches ONLY within those areas.  Go back to the main board, type in the search box and you get a ton of results for your exact query.

Now hit the search button in the menu and get even more results.  You complain about the search all the time, but you don't know how to use it.  I can find anything I want with that search in seconds.

I used Ty's search and found a ton of threads about buying in the US and moved them to this section.  Enjoy.

Yes I did change it because it was to generic.
I'm planing on getting a new car and I'm thinking about getting it over the boarder. I don't know what I want yet some thing sporty under 30k maybe a civic SI sedan, TSX, wrx, mazdaspeed3, 6 speed Altima maybe even a used TL or a G35. My only criteria are under 30k, 4 doors, half decent interior ,manual with some guts. I'm trying to eliminate cars from the list by doing research like will Honda Canada honor the warranty or will the local Nissan dealer service my American car.

As for the attack, it was all in good fun I thought the Yaris (pun: Your Ass) comment was funny. He took a shot at me and I took one back. The bottom line is that if you don't like the topic move on.

Oh!, it was all joking. Oh okay, sorry for thinking you were an ass.

I can tell you about my consideration of importing the TSX. I did the calculations, and despite what seems like a huge difference in US to Canadian price, the actual difference narrowed to about 5 grand, because of the additional 6% duty they slap on cars made outside of North America. If the remember the order of duty/taxes slapped, the 6% is first, then the 7% and 8% are tacked on top of that.

And Honda would not honor the warranty.

And I read on a TSX forum about a guy buying a TSX, and then having problems making changes to it (daytime running lights and something else?) to meet Canadian regulations. Acura Canada didn't know how to do because they don't have to; Acura US didn't know how to do it because they never do it; and Canadian Tire wouldn't touch it because they didn't know how to do it. I never followed up to see if he finally was able to get it done and for how much, but by then I had decided I didn't want the hassle for 5 grand for a 44K (with taxes) car. I'm thinking, with the parity now, the difference may be 6-7 grand?

EDITED: for typos.

Also, someone posted not long ago about Scotiabank enabling people to lease US cars. That would eliminate the need for getting a loan for the full purchase price.

The information on this forum indicated that Subaru would honor the warranty. On Driving Television, Toyota said they would but I also heard Toyota was cracking down hard on US dealerships selling to Canadians.

That's kind of the limit that I know.

p.s. When I forgot to add in the 6% additional duty on the Japanese-made TSX, my difference came to about $10,000. Much more appealing then. So I think there's potentially lots to be saved for a US built car. A member on this forum (Stylin Sienna?) saved 13,000K.

Also check on the "How much did you pay for your car thread", I think there are a few posts from those who have bought from the US.

Overall, the entire process is still not spelt out in the forum anywhere and still does not seem clear, at least not to me.

do shoppers factor in the following the cost of hotel, time, gas.  For me being only 7 hours from Bangor I would require 2 tanks of gas ($90) and another $60 for hotel and then food.  So thats a lot of big saving items I require just to recoupe the of 90+60+food.  I know the legal delared amount by law for 24 and 48 would not work in my case. My job every few months keeps me in the US for periods of 10 days or more so the US savings end up working for me.

How much can I bring back with me?
The longer your trip, the more you can bring back. If you are going for a week or more, your exemption is $750 Cdn. You can bring back 1.5 litres of wine or 1.14 litres of liquor or 1.14 litres of wine and liquor, or 24 cans or bottles of beer. You may also bring back 200 cigarettes, 50 cigars or cigarillos, 200 grams of manufactured tobacco and 200 tobacco sticks. You can include tobacco and alcoholic beverages for a partial exemption and you can ship some of your items home before you cross the border. Be aware though the day you left for your trip is not counted as part of the week's seven-day calculation.

If you are away for more than 48 hours, you can bring back $400 worth of goods, 1.5 litres of wine or 1.14 litres of liquor or 1.14 litres of wine and liquor, or 24 cans or bottles of beer. You may also bring back 200 cigarettes, 50 cigars or cigarillos, 200 grams of manufactured tobacco and 200 tobacco sticks.

If you are going for more than 24 hours but less than 48 hours, you can bring back $50 Cdn worth of goods without paying duties. You must have the goods with you when you cross the border and you can't include tobacco or alcohol in the exemption.

What penalties will I face if I don't declare all of my purchases?
If you are caught lying, your purchases may be confiscated and you may have to pay a fine ranging from 25 to 80 per cent to get the goods back

I have always been a cross border shopper.  Strange but true the exact shoes bought last week in the US were $80 and $210 here.

I wasn't clear on the search function either. (It's not exactly as if it's spelled out anywhere Wing)
