MB C-Class for the weekend
« on: September 18, 2007, 02:24:49 am »
Had the new MB C300 4Matic for the weekend on a magazine photoshoot. Here are some pix.
Got to wring it out during an afternoon of rain.  ;D

More to come later. Tired....

I just got an email from M-B for a test drive of one of those... I see it has a coolant temp  gauge. If it also has a dipstick and a spare tire my conversion from a BMW may be coming.

I like its looks more than either the new A4 or the current 3-Series sedan.  And considering that I'm generally not an MB fan, that's high praise.

Glad to see that they still believe in coolant temperature gauges, dipsticks, and spare tires.

Sadly Mitlov, their belief in manual transmissions is very weak. Only the 'base model' of this is available in NA with a manual.   But even a mini spare tire is an improvement over a runflat. AND unlike the current 3 series I think it has proper amber rear indicators.

It came with Premium package and 4Matic. Sport pkg is free...for now. IIRC the msrp is 47k? This is the C300 4matic. It is more agile than the previous w203. I was able to induced a controlled drift down an onramp during the rain. Honestly b/t the 328i or the C300, I'd pick the benz. The BMW may have better feedback. But 95% of the owners will not notice it. And if I am that sort of person, I'd get neither and opt for an rx8 for total visceral driving experience that can carry four with comfort.
The new C does stand out in the sea of 3-series in Lotusland. the interior is no longer the fuddy-duddy style. The gauges are one of my favourite. It gives a sense of occassion for the driver that the drab Bimmer interior doesn't. YMMV. During our photoshoot, there were lots of people stopping by to inquire about the car. MB should give me some commission! Apparently the car is not for sale. First delivery in Jan 08 for Canada.

If you have it flaunt it! Cross-drilled rotors + AMG monobloc calipers standard with sport pkg.

Well, base-engined C-Classes and and base-engined SLKs are the only Benzes I could ever conceivably afford.  They can put cybernetic-wombat transmissions in the CLS, the S-Class, and the AMG cars for all I care.

Jan '08?  What?  Shipments of the new C-class was to begin Sept 12th and they said 4Matics were not here yet (when I drove them) but would most likely be available at launch or maybe 1 month behind.

Will likely stuck at ports until clearance of some sort of DOT thing. But I am known to be wrong.

Hey, is it me or what that there are these BMW/Audi ads floating on this thread?! Did you do it James? or some sort of smart-ads with keyword thingy. Spooky when I first saw it.
