Off to the US shopping on Monday
« on: September 14, 2007, 01:49:21 pm »
I'm off the the US Monday to shop for a new Subaru
Forester for my daugher (probably a L.L. Bean edition. We had intended to wait a couple of months to replace her car but now we have to buy a Forester produced prior to Sept 1/07 to import it to Canada (non Turbo model) Should be fun. I think I'll take the opportunity to test drive a Tribeca and maybe a VW Passet 3.6 4motion and Tourag. I'm probably not going to replace my  Pathfinder until Spring but who knows?
My first ever GM ownership experience  can best be described as   "Fool me once...."

Just an FYI, my father went to Watertown NY last week. Visited the VW dealer as well as the Toyota dealer and they both told him that they had received corporate instructions to no longer sell to Canadians...

Does anyone have a listing of MFR's that won't sell to canadians (or void the warranty)?  I've seen some mentioned but do not know of all.  I believe Honda is one of them.

Does this mean if I purchase an `06 Pilot for example, the remaining wty will not be honored over here?

Nice of them indeed, maybe a popular demand from the custom officers at the gates.  :) Kinda ironic, our gov't provides the courses to go shopping down south, and the US private businesses are instructed not to take your money.

There is a Lexus dealer from the Detroit area advertising used RXs in the Windsor newspaper for a few months now. The are stating they will pay duty fees if any. (not all Rxs are build in Canada)

Sorry, doesn't work that way. From Hyundai US site:

Covers repair or replacement of powertrain components (i.e. selected Engine and Transmission/Transaxle components), originally manufactured or installed by Hyundai that are defective in material or factory workmanship, under normal use and maintenance. Coverage applies to Original Owner only effective with 2004 Model Year and newer model year vehicles. On 1999-2003 Model Years, coverage applies to Original Owner and immediate family members (i.e. wife, husband, daughter, son, stepdaughter, stepson).

Second and/or subsequent owners have powertrain components coverage under the 5 year / 60,000 mile New Vehicle Limited Warranty. Excludes coverage for vehicles in commercial use (i.e. taxi, route delivery, delivery service, rental, etc.).

Non domestic dealers in Detroit getting desperate huh?  :rofl2:

J/k, many American dealerships are doing that too...including a Subaru one in Rochester, NY.

Interesting....I knew about Toyota but not VW.....must be something recent. When I talked to the Bangor,Maine VW dealer a couple of months ago it was no problem. (and VW Canada confirmed to me by email that they honoured US warranty)
