Thanks all for the kind words about the Lancer and AMX. I've noticed an interesting phenomena today. I've had three different people, only one of whom i actually know, tell me I'm an idiot because the Lancer doesn't have the power to go with the looks and I should have gone For (Insert brand worth 20 grand more Here) instead.

I must admit to being amazed the first time when I was criticised by some one I've never met before at the local grocery store parking lot and told I should have went for a BMW instead. I actually started to explain that that option would have doubled my cost when it occurred to me that I didn't owe the yahoo an explanation.  I'm undecided if i should take it as a compliment that these loons are thinking a lancer is a poor substitute for an Acura TL or not. The third guy, who I actually know by name said I should have went for an Audi A4. I don't think he's even seen an Audi A4. I did tell him I don't take advice on cars from a man who drives a 90something Pontiac Bonneville which is apparently a far bigger insult then calling someone an idiot for buying a new car that doesn't meet his approval at least to his way of thinking. I guess I'll have to write it off as one of the weirder experiences of my life.

They are obviously jealous of your purchase. Sounds like they are diagnosed with douchebaggary disorder.

You got a really sharp looking sport compact.  :)

I think the Lancer is a great vehicle that will make a splash in the compact segment.  I think the statements you heard are a result of ignorance and lack of knowledge.

Those are funny experiences.  :)

Give me a few days and I might see the humour. For now I'm liking the douchebaggery disorder diagnoses from 2hondas. For all the different cars I've owned I've never had a similiar conversation even once before. I'm still a little gobsmacked at this point

I find it a bit amazing that total strangers would go so far as to suggest you made a mistake in your car choice. A simple "mind your own business" or more bluntly, "fark off" might have been in order. I can't imagine saying to a stranger, "too bad you didn't get a "X" instead of that". Geez  :P :P

KRS,

I honestly think those people were jealous. Ignorant, yes. Jealous too.

You've got a fine sport compact. Lots of value for money. They're jealous, so they tell you things to make you feel bad.

Be flattered in a way - they are comparing your very affordable car to some that are way more expensive. I'd be tempted to say - yes I like the BMW too and while I can afford it, I wanted to take the extra $30,000 and go on a world cruise....or something along those lines. 8) ::)

In the one pic taken in the garage where it shows your Motorcycle was that about a 1975-6 Buick in the background. It looked to be white in colour and is sitting beside the tractor? I like the colour of your new car and think its a good purchase myself. Hope you have many good years of enjoyment with it as well.  :)

Good eye barrie. That's my dads 75 Buick LeSabre Convertible that we were getting out to use in a local parade the day the photo was taken. I believe if you look closely in one of the corolla photos its in the back ground as well. Complete with 455 inches of V8 goodness. it will pass every thing but a gas station as long as no ones put a curve in the road.

Agree. These people are just silly. Par for the course perhaps, though.

Congrats on the new purchase. The Lancer GTS its a very nice looking car. Perhaps because the design is so aggressive and modern, but with a certain Teutonic clean-ness to it, bystanders compare it to the Bimmers and Audis of the world?

Not such bad company. :)

Really dig that AMX too, and the Lancer - most so in GTS - wears a fantastic design inside and out.

Thanks for sharing.

...many young people...

http://www.canadiandriver.com/news/070905-2.htm
2008 Mitsubishi Lancer has youngest buyers

Toronto, Ontario - The new 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer sedan, introduced in April, has the youngest buyers in the compact car segment, according to a report from the Power Information Network. Lancer buyers have an average age of 34, and 63.4% are male, according to the report.

In contrast, most other compact cars sold in Canada have customers with an average age over 40 with male and female buyers split fairly evenly, says the report. For example, the average age of a 2007 Honda Civic buyer is 43 and 49.4% are male; 2007 Toyota Corolla buyers average 49 years and 44.6% are male; 2007 Mazda3 buyers average 39 years and 50.5% are male; 2007 Ford Focus customers average 48 and 46.7% are male.

"One feature that's helping the Lancer is Mitsubishi's comprehensive warranty: 10-year/160,000 km-powertrain; 5-year/100,000-km bumper-to-bumper; and 5-year roadside assistance," said the report.

The Mitsubishi Lancer is also drawing buyers away from other vehicle brands. "From May to July, only 6.4% of Lancer trade-ins came from Mitsubishi customers, meaning that 93.5% of customers came from other nameplates," said the report. That's the highest "conquest" rate in its segment.

That's really good info SirA thanks. Mitsu must be really pleased with the reaction to the new Lancer, plus conquest sales are soooooo important, and age demographics. Now Mitsu better have a good plan for midsize and beyond for these youngster to move up in segment.

:iagree:  Let's hope their new offerings will be as good as the Outlander and Lancer cars.  Big leap forward.....

Great fleet.  I especially like the AMX and the Lancer.  The Lancer looks great in that colour.
