Some photos of my little fleet
« on: August 31, 2007, 11:31:55 pm »
I was looking at some of the photos I've taken of the Corolla, the bike, the AMX and my Truck and decided to share. The Corolla has gone to a new home today. When I get a chance to get some pics of it's replacement I'll post them as well.

Many thanks to all who  help me figure out how to make the pictures a postable size

That's a cool AMX....not something you see everyday.  Thanks for sharing.  Are they all daily drivers?

ovr50 the AMX is a 1980.  The brother bought it new and I've had it about 15 years now.
MD for the last year the AMX has has been in storage. I used it daily during the summers a few years ago and thats when the photo's where taken of it. The bike I don't drive as often as i would like but I've had it out this year. The Corolla was a driven every day and did about 35000k last year, the truck I need to use for work just often enough to keep it Last year it did about 4000 K and a quarter of that was when the car needed an oil change

Okay, I'm sure you're not going to hear this often on this enthusiast board, but

I love your (now departed) Corolla!!!

I have such a sentimental attachment to the Corolla that I will always love it, always miss it in a way.

I'm amazed and appreciative of the kind words for the Corolla. The Corolla was not exciting but it was the most trouble free vehicle I have ever own. I have to admit i almost hated to leave it behind just because I've never experienced such reliability. When the truck was at it's mileage i'd had a small fortune in brake work done already.

Still when you spend a couple of hours a day in the car its nice to get something a little more entertaining. I just hope Mitsubishi can build cars as reliably.

Criminy just realized I didn't say. I bought a new Lancer GTS.

Lancer GTS, I like that car!

I hope you'll find it very fun to drive. :)

I agree; even if I had bought another Corolla, I think I would have ended up trading it. You've hit the nail on the head, it's how it felt like such a reliable companion that made it tug at my heartstrings.

We will be looking forward to your new car pics and story!  :D

I'll have to wait for light to get any photos but I guess I can give the background that led to the Lancer being bought.

When I bought the Corolla I had a small budget and didn't want to travel more then 50 km from home to get to a dealer. A little background, In the last 20 years I've had two employers go bankrupt and so I only buy vehicles I can afford outright just so I never get caught out again. Because of this mind set I am not looking into higher end vehicles. Also I have Never had any luck with a used car and so I accept the depreciation of buying new.

This time I wanted to get a more entertaining car, I'm willing to drive farther and I had a bigger budget but I am still driving a couple of hours every day so I still want economy. Its added a Hyundai dealer, some Mazda dealers  and 2 Mitsubishi dealers to the possible's over the last time I looked.
The Pursuit (G5) being available in a coupe was the only difference in the cars I looked at last time. I had a less then fun time with a Honda dealer last time and wasn't treated with a great deal more respect by a different dealer this time so they're off the list . Stopped to look at the Hyundai's, and while they appear to look like they have improved an incredible amount from 10 years ago I didn't appreciate the styling so much.

I have always had a yen for the MX5 but occasionally need more then 2 seats. a Mazda 3 would be what I should be looking at but my wanter is always willing to ignore practicality so I only made a brief stop at the Mazda dealer and got out before I put money down on a PRHT MX5 that wasn't going to do what I need but that I want

Went to the Mitsubishi dealer. Test drove a Lancer DE 5 speed and it was a pretty nice car to drive but the fit and finish wasn't any thing to write home about. The Salesguy then shows me a GTS they had in the back. It was about as good a put together an interior as I've seen and I really am a sucker for electronic doo dad's and the GTS has them. To be honest the fast key, the heated seats and the heated mirrors pretty much sold me on the car at the end, when combined with the fact that it actually seems like it wants to go for a drive and I was ready to buy. They were able to get me a car in just under two weeks.

Despite a traffic jam on the 401, I made it to the dealers today and am now except far a small but annoying issue with the dealer am the happy owner of a red Lancer GTS with the sun and sound package. The only thing I noticed on the drive home I never noticed on the test drive is that the radio display is washed out in the right sunlight. I'm sure I'll pick up more things good and bad as I drive it but so far It's a vast improvement in the fun to drive area.

Will try for pictures tomorrow

"When the truck was at it's mileage i'd had a small fortune in brake work done already. "
I had 160,000km on my 2000 Chevy before I trade it in, no brake job
My 03 had 130,000 before I replaced the rear rotors and pad all around

Waiting for your pictures of your new ride ;D

Here you go folks some pictures of the new car to pay my debt to forum society  :) The last is the one shows my favourite view of the car. With another 30 horses it would be nearly perfect. Now I have to drive a tractor in a parade and then its  :skid: :drive:

Congrats on your new Mitsu. Here's hoping it provides you with th fun you were looking for.
I think there are going to be Star Wars movie-like lineups when the Evo finally gets here.

Nice stable and congratulations on the new Lancer.

Owned a Corolla before and share your sentiments and reasons to keep one.

KRS, great write up, loved reading it.

Woooo, I agree, the GTS trim is niiiiiiiiiiice. I've always liked the new Lancer from the moment I saw it. Love the wheels, the spoiler, the aggresive front look. And that interior looks like quality.

You've given yourself a real nice gift.

Thanks for the pics!  :D

Thanks all for the kind words about the Lancer and AMX. I've noticed an interesting phenomena today. I've had three different people, only one of whom i actually know, tell me I'm an idiot because the Lancer doesn't have the power to go with the looks and I should have gone For (Insert brand worth 20 grand more Here) instead.

I must admit to being amazed the first time when I was criticised by some one I've never met before at the local grocery store parking lot and told I should have went for a BMW instead. I actually started to explain that that option would have doubled my cost when it occurred to me that I didn't owe the yahoo an explanation.  I'm undecided if i should take it as a compliment that these loons are thinking a lancer is a poor substitute for an Acura TL or not. The third guy, who I actually know by name said I should have went for an Audi A4. I don't think he's even seen an Audi A4. I did tell him I don't take advice on cars from a man who drives a 90something Pontiac Bonneville which is apparently a far bigger insult then calling someone an idiot for buying a new car that doesn't meet his approval at least to his way of thinking. I guess I'll have to write it off as one of the weirder experiences of my life.
