Update:  After driving a few more km's on the van, the cylinder deactivation is seamless.  It's the DBW that is a little jerky when you have a very light foot on the gas.  That's the cause of the 'hiccup'....

There really is no excuse for the DBW not being completely seamless nowadays.   Maybe the engine computer is not quite perfect in its conversations with the transmission computer which does have to translate electronic signals into  valves and pipes and fluids gurgling about...

It seems to only occur when you're hovering over the gas pedal ever so slightly.  Seems to get a big confused as to what it should do.....no excuse and I wish the electronics would be a bit more confident in that situation.  It seems to gas it a bit, then let off as it has given more than I have asked for.

Its eerily similar to what I had experienced with the Camry. ECU tuning by Toyota's TSB has helped tremendously, its quite happy go-trigger now.

I occasionally experience a similar phenomenon with the Yaris, but only at about 40 kph and only rarely. Guess I'll have to check on whether there's a TSB for it too.  ;)

Only rarely?  I thought you always drove at 40 kph   :rofl2:

The early runs of the current Sienna also had some software issues, this was resolved with a TSB.  Probably similar to UA's Camry.

Check out any Honda boards to see if it is a common issue and if there is a fix.

The Passat had that problem at first while it learned how I drive and it adjusted accordingly and went away. It might be be same way for the Honda - smart logic IIRC, so maybe give it some time as it will have to learn both of your preferences.

Just had a long day of driving and the 'issue' seems to be gone.  I think inco was right, it was the electronics learning my driving habits and tailoring the system to me.  I'll keep an eye out for any TSB's...thanks for the suggestion.

It will have to re-learn when your wife drives, then you, then her, then....   ;D

I'm hoping it can remember which key is used to start the van, but I think it takes a while before the algorithms change.

MD, I doubt the Honda ECU learning your driving habits are going to solve this light hesitation. Typically the learning strategy has more to go with the trans shifting strategy on a short term based on how you are driving at that moment.

What you describe can be related to the lean strategy when cruising or the torque converter clutch modulation. And in your case, add the cylinder deactivation on top of that. I would definitely suggest to monitor TSBs... A future reflash might be in order.

Thanks Benhaze....all I know now is the 'issue' seems to be gone.  I haven't been able to successfully reproduce it...and I've tried.

No problem. Hopefully it won't come back!
