My Mom is still without a car (travelled a bunch and stopped caring about having a car) but now she seems to interested again. I took the day off work today and took her to a few dealerships:
Porsche: Wanted to see the new cayenne. Went to the dealer asked to see the salesman who sold us the last one...waited....waited...waited, left, he never came to see us..classy!
Land Rover: Went to check out the range rover sport. I loved it, my Mom, not so much. Felt it was very cramped inside, couldn't find a comfortable driving position and found the car to be too high off the ground when trying to climb in (the suspension is adjustable but too much work for my Mom to deal with). We took it on an extended highway run and then I got to let it out a bit in a commercial zone...I thought the car was slightly underpowered, it weighs a ton, sort of like the prior generation cayenne (I guess that's why they sell the supercharged and turbo respectively). Overall, my Mom didn't like it, I liked (thought it was really stylin') but thought it was underpowered and not worth the money.
The rover dealer is also a jag dealer so I took a look at a few of their offerings, well actually, I only looked at the new XF. I was particularly underwhelmed by the exterior (way too plain), however, the interior was a different story, WOW, it may have been the nicest interior I've EVER been in, it was gorgeous!!!!
Audi: Checked out a Q7 with the V6. Overall, it was pretty impressive, the pricepoint is great compared to the Cayenne (good starting point, but you get optioned to death - our last one had approx. $25k in options, not worth it!) and the Range Rover Sport (friggen expensive, but fully loaded). I didn't get to drive it but my Mom did and she seemed to enjoy it. I really liked the interior of this vehicle, certainly on par with the rover and far superior to the cayenne. This vehicle just felt comfortable and had most of the options my Mom is looking for (although, you can only get a homelink garage transmitter as part of a $3k option package, which is very stupid!). The only options my Mom would need to add are the park assist/rear view camera and the nav system.
I also played around in the S5, was unimpressed with the interior (although I'm sure the engine is great) and it seemed to be a little too long for my liking (disproportionate).
After today it seems we are getting closer to a vehicle. Not sure what they'll look at next but hopefully they'll lock it up soon.
