Could it be from him using the parking brake too tightly or no? Curious.

After awhile I've seen pads turn hard as a rock (on my bro's old Tiburon). Would last a dog's age.  

Could be worse and be like me... drive thru your pads and grind into the disc  :o Beautiful noise to the ears. Was fun trying to get the metal specs off the wheels and paint in winter. Come to think of it, fixing that was similar to the figure you paid (with routine service).

The parking brake only grabs the rear brakes, so even if he was a fast-and-crazy parking lot driver and applied the parking brake before the drums/discs had time to cool, you would only get pulsing in the brake pedal.  A warped rear drum/disc doesn't give you any steering feedback unless it's warped so bad that the entire car shakes.
