If I recall and am not mistaken, in the UK do they not teach drivers using a manual tranny to use the parking brake to hold the vehicle while starting out on an incline? When I was at Mercedes I think the sale rep mentioned something about the vehicle having a system in place that prevented the vehicle from rolling backwards when starting on an incline. I think they called it Hill Assist or something like that.
They teach that over here, too. I learned it with Young Drivers, at any rate. But I've always found it easier just to modulate the clutch and brakes to get going on a hill than to fumble with the parking brake...
