Check out my new car enthusiast shoes!
« on: August 19, 2007, 08:14:24 pm »
We all need to buy new shoes now and again for ones that wear out.  For those of us that love cars, why buy a set of athletic shoes when we can buy some nice car enthusiast shoes for the same money?  So that's exactly what I did the last time, and this weekend I picked up another pair.

My first pair I even bought was some Piloti Prototipos.  I got these brand new from E-bay for $32 shipped. These were a limited Edition Viper Club International pair. These are on the left.

My most recent purchase is a set of Piloti Spyders.  These are a bit more relaxed fitting than the Prototipo. Have been wearing them since I bought them, and are right up there for comfort, and the speed lacing is downright convenient!

I hope to get a pair of Strasse next.

You can see their whole line here: www.piloti.com

How fast is my Supra?  I sh*t on Cessnas from a roll....

Nice shoes.

I have an older pair of DTMs, and while they are nice, I was never really crazy about them: the sole seems a little hard, and not very grippy. I really have to pay attention, or else I find that my foot will slip off the brake pedal when heel-and-toeing.

I actually had an old pair of Nike approach shoes that I found made a much better driving shoe - until I wore holes clean through the soles, anyway.  :'(

Oh yeah, and I forgot to mention that the Pilotis would make my heels ache after an hour or two. That was no problem for track days, but was kind of annoying on road trips. Very strange, not only because the shoes have a rounded heel (supposedly designed expressly for driving), but also because I've never experienced any issues like that with any other shoe.

Anyway, glad you like yours! Maybe I'll have to dig mine out of the closet & give them another chance. Maybe I just need to keep breaking them in.  ;)

I think your feet ache since the DTM is a pure racing shoe (I think it's fireproof Nomex too??).  The Prototipo was the 1st new overall re-design of their shoes for street driving/touring.  My Prototipos fit tightly, and are less comfy than my Spyders.  Check out the awesome Strasse.  Clog-backed driving shoe with speed lacing.  My next pair for sure!!
