Speed
« on: August 11, 2007, 04:22:45 am »
Ja, so I'm here in Germany near the Alps and the weather is crap but the rental is great, BMW320 brand spanking new (2K on odometer) and the roads are fantastic. So I'm thumbing my nose to the west towards Canada as I'm cruising on the autobahn at 200km/h +, rarely below that speed. I'm wondering, does life get any better then this?

So I drive into Austria and they have increased the speed limit there as well since my last visit.  Now it's 100 and 130km/h. Before it was 80 and a 100 not to long ago.

Why is Kanada going backwords with the speed limits?

I also noticed that traffic lights that don't get used automatically shut off, mostly in the evening. hardly any stop signs, mostly yeld signs and round abouts. Stop lights change from red to amber to green, like the Christmas tree at a race track. Have not seen an collisions yet.

So the Germans no how to conserve energy  and enhance the flow of traffic. Like I said before tickets in Kanada are nothing more then a cash grab...right Fuzzy?

Off to Switzerland next week. Gee I think there speed limits are 80 and 120 if I'm not mistaken.
Hopefully I win tonights Lotto, I'll stay here.....

Cheers! ;D

Why is Kanada going backwords with the speed limits?

IMO it's mostly because of poorly trained/educated drivers and the condition of the Canadian road system.

You may not have to win the lottery to stay there.  You could try claiming refugee status in Germany.   Canada's lost is Germany's gain.

Ja, some village in Kanata might have just lost its.. . never mind. On the serious note we should start granting 200 kmh individual night permits on 401. Let the nature select  :rofl2:

Speed limits on highways here should be rated at what they can handle safely and efficiently - but they're not... there are unwritten rules that if the highway is limited to 100km/h, you can do 120km/h if safe.  Furthermore, if "safe", speeding is socially accepted.  Speeding tickets here do tend to be more about the money than the safety.

One point of evidence for this is how many/most institutions' applications ask if any offenses have been committed by the applicant, OTHER THAN ROAD VIOLATIONS.

Most people would abide by our speed limits if they were set realistically and respectably for the majority of road users.

But unfortunately, we live in kanada.

German drivers know that people are driving at 200-300kph, so they drive accordingly.

Canada is spelt with a "C" lolz.

Go over the speed limit in Switzerland and see what they do...  :rofl2:
