Removing Balance Weight Tape from Mags
« on: August 09, 2007, 08:21:39 am »
Just put new tires on the wifes XTrail and want to know if anybody has used a good product to easily remove the sticky tape residue from the old balance weights.

I have tried Varsol, but its not very effective and looks like it would take a lot of work to get it all off.

Thanks Eric

Goo Gone  ?

No, apparently it's still there.  That's why he's asking.

I agree with the GOO be Gone product as it does work quite well actually.  :)

I have no specific recommendation, but I would think one needs to be very careful if using a knife as scratches could easily happen. Also, some chemicals to remove the glue could cause tarnishing or dulling of the alloy wheel's surface.

I would ask a good tireshop what they recommend.  ???

Lighter fluid!  It's the best sticky goo remover substance I've ever used.

Try WD40. Let it soak in for a minute or 2 then rub the residue off.
