speedometer not working
« on: August 01, 2007, 02:34:23 pm »
Hey guys,

I got a 95 Altima, the car works great, but the speedometer doesn't.  It tends to drop to 0km/h once in a while mostly during low speed city driving.  It seems to work fine on the hi-way and the gears shift normally even when the speedometer isn't working, but the odometer stops working.  What do you guys think might be the problem? Is it just the dial that's slipping? ???  Is it expensive to fix?

Thnx

*might* be a loose cable.

Loose cable or worn out end piece that goes into the tranny gear on the side where the speedo is located. A good tranny shop for example will be able to fix it for sure.  :)

Try Speed Sensor.  Located on transaxle.  Remove: beat on it and spray WD40 on it and reinstall.  If no change, replace.  It's plug and play.  No cable, just wire.  They are cheap; about $35.
