Huh Are people commenting on the braking performance of the new WRX vs. the previous version on test data or actual test drives?

Excellent question Snowy Sandy. In my much younger days I used to rely heavily on the "paper performance" rather than actual driving experience. It lead to some MAJOR purchasing mistakes (e.g. 1981 Citation  Embarrassed Embarrassed). "The proof is in the pudding", not the list of ingredients.  Wink

Same with my Legacy.  Full-time AWD, manual transmission, boxer four engine with 175 horsepower, 17" alloy wheels, what's not to like?

People can cry all they like about the new "soft" suspension, but having driven a base 08 Impreza back to back with an 07, I prefer the 08.  Yes, it is more compliant, but it grips better.  The new suspension is "grown up" in a German kinda way, offering better grip and better ride quality.

Drive a BMW, MB or Audi and you'll see what I mean.  They all have more body roll and suspension movement than you'd expect, but the tuning and geometry means that when things get twisty, it plain works without you losing your fillings.  Also, it means no bump steer, a real bugger on broken Canuck roads.

Now, they have made some serious strides in the suspension tuning, but have not in the steering feel department.  Hello?  It's still too light.  C'mon Subaru, obviously you backwards engineered some German car, why the mushy brake pedal and overboosted steering?

Not sure anybody noticed but the base Impreza's only have Drum brakes  Embarrassed

This  with the lame 4 spd auto and short geared 5spd manual takes some of the shine off the new model.

They havent addressed the NVH and mileage from the Transmission cost cutting.

If you look closer you will see alot of other cost cutting ...

I was looking seriously at a new Impreza, but now, other than awd, that is its only advantage now.

I guess you didn't check out the Sport model.

And yes, the 4AT sucks, but I am sure its a reliable unit.

Subaru desperately needs advertising. Seriously.

Looks like there is an option for a "sport" grill for these new Subies... looks much "cleaner" imo.

Looks worlds better with that mesh grill!  Is it an option, then?

Its an accessory, but yeah, same thing. According to subaru.ca, it costs $369.95.
