Forbes top 20 most dangerous vehicles...

http://www.forbes.com/2007/07/26/cars-dangerous-twenty-forbeslife-cx_bh_0726cars.html
What a strange selection.  I would not dream of owning any of them but not because they are deemed un safe by Forbes
A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

Reads more like a make work project for some of their writers.

Yup, good list:

"For example, the Nissan  350Z has a death rate that's about double that of the average sports car.

But it's not for the reasons you might think. In this case, says Russ Rader, communications director for the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), an organization that represents the interests of the insurance industry, the 350Z is part of a group of vehicles that tends to be driven by younger, less experienced or riskier drivers, and stands out for having high death rates, through no particular fault of the car
."

Another "nugget" from the article:

"Any vehicle can be especially unsafe if it's used in a way it's not designed for, such as if a high-clearance pickup is used primarily empty on curvy, hilly roads, according to Linkov.

"Combine that with a poorly trained driver," he says, "and it's dangerous."

Duh, tell me something I don't know   :shake:

So what does a list like this tell us?

Wonder what wing and Mr. Fuzz will say when they see their cars on the list?

"Gee, sir, I've been interning here all summer and you haven't let me do anything but get you coffee and picking up your laundry"

"Well, I want to go golfing but I have this article to right for Forbes. Tell you what, go ahead and write this article for me about the 20 most dangerous vehicles on the road today."

"Did you do any research?"

"Research is for chumps! Let that be a lesson to you. No, no, just look out the window a write down the first 20 cars you see. Remember don't write bad about the richy-rich cars the readers of Forbes likely drive. What do you drive?

"Mazda 3"

"Oh yeah, put that on the list."

I didn't see my car on the list...But if it was, I'd say whatever. I've seen dead people in small cars, I've seen dead people in big cars. When your time is up, it's up. C'est la vie.

The high-performance S2000 convertible has stellar handling and accident avoidance, and gets a surprisingly good five-star rating in NHTSA's side-impact test, plus a top five-star mark for rollover risk. But side airbags aren't at all available on the little, low-riding roadster.

So it gets the best rating for side and frontal impacts, from an institution dedicated to testing and reporting on car safety...  but Forbes says its dangerously unsafe because it lacks side airbags?  There are cars with side airbags that get worse side impact ratings.

Forbes should stop writing car-related stories before they embarrass themselves.  Or, at least stick to the ones they actually know: "The Top 20 Cars to Make Up For Your Erectile Dysfunction".

In regard of that safety issue, I think Ross should trade it in for a GM 1/2 ton truck.  :)

I'll give that suggestion all of the deep thought it deserves. Ah, that was refreshing - and quick.  ;)

The Ford Crown Victoria should have been on the list for having a gas tank behind the rear axle.  If I recall correctly, it's the only vehicle on the road that still does this.

Gee just about every compact car is on the list, guess we should avoid that segment altogether.  As a Mazda3 fanboy I would like to point out that everyone one them now has side airbags making it's position at number 20 a bit murky.  Hounourable mention should go out to the 2-door Civic which did poorly with side airbags.

Also gotta ask:  Is Accident avoidance abilities> crashworthiness or is it the other way around?
