wheel rim leaking on 03 seebring
« on: July 18, 2007, 05:04:41 pm »
I own a 03 chrysler seebring (16 X 6.5) with alloy wheel and they are leaking. Want can i do with then? Can I get the rim buffed for pitting and resealed or should i get steel to replace them?

On one of my motorcycles the alloy wheels had corroded on bead and valve stem areas and were slow leaking air. Not being any replacement options for a bike, the shop buffed out the corrosion and then added a layer of sealant and it was good. Lasted another 15 years until the bike was worn out, just checked for corrosion and redid the sealant whenever I changed tires.

Visit a local tire store and have them put it in the dunk tank. Sometimes the wheel itself has a crack or pinhole. If the bead area is the culprit, it will show that as well. The shop can clean the corrosion and apply bead sealer that usual cures most bead leaks.
