Ok look for some opinions here. I know I need to pick what I like and I will when it all comes down to it but I'm just looking for suggestions to give me things to think about. The wheels will be 17s with 225 50s on them (likely Kuhmos). The car is a Nissan Maxima 99 GLE that mostly sat in my father's garage (although well maintained) so its mint. Its lakeshore Blue (which looks grey to me but what do I know).

The suspension will be changed on Friday this week from stock to H&R and Illuminas. I'm close to 40 and while  like my car to Handel well I'm not going to race it. I also (no offense to anyone's taste) do not like flash or bling or whatever its called this days. I've found choosing wheels almost overwhelming. I've narrowed it down somewhat. I've tried to pick stuff that is not too heavy but won't spend big bucks for super lightweight wheels.

Main points to think about:

1. Color- I like darker grey rather than flashy bright but am concerned about the match with lakeshore blue.
2. 5 solid spokes or split spokes. I won't be doing brake upgrades so not sure if stuck brakes will look crappy if the wheel is too open.
3. I think a polished or machined lip would look good since the car does have a little chrome but not sure.

I've searched for pics of lakeshore blue Maxcy's with rims but haven't had much luck. I'm sue any and all opinions will give me something to think about and make a decision. I'll also be happy to see a picture of other suggestions I may have missed.

A picture of a similar car helps a bit.

IMO, Option No.2.

What's a GLE?  I only know it as a trim package on Nissans and VWs.

If you're going two inches or bigger than the stock wheels, in my opinion all those wheels will make your brakes look fugly.  I would go with wider spokes, or get some smaller thin-spoke wheels that are closer to stock.

That being said, I like the third wheel the best, with the first wheel being a close second.

EDIT: Thanks for the pic, Umro.  With a car that bulky, I would definitely go with wider spokes.  Thin spokes and rubber band tires look cheesy on big cars (in my opinion :)).

Of the 3, like #1 the best. Budget range for the wheels?

I have a confession to make. I cut and pasted from a post I put on Maxima.org so my original post may have been a bit criptic. I edited it thanks for pointing this out.

Huge thanks for the picture of the car I never thought about it.

Budget for the wheel and tire package is 1200-1500 before tax. So probaly150-200 for the wheels (each)

I'm not worried about going to 17 because although the GLE comes stock with 15 Maxima SE which is identical in body style come with 16. Its really only plus 1 as far as I'm concerned. Also I'll be going with the taller of the 2 tire sizes 225/50 rather than 235/45 so they won't look quite as rubber band like.

hopefully the 1.5 inch drop will close up the wheel gap enough I won't look like I'm 4 wheeling.

I was leaving a little towards well #1 but I see so many Maximas that all have solid 5 spoke wheels like 2 and 3 that I wondered if I was missing something or just being different.

keep the stuff coming.

You might want to edit your price range above.  ;)

Of the 3 choices, and without seeing how they look on the car, I would take No.1 also.
2011 BMW X3 35i Vermillion Red, MSport
and
2012 Toyota Camry SE V6 in Alpine White

Ovr is right, again. $200 ain't much for good 17" wheels.

I think he meant the fact that I put the package range at 1200 to 15,000 instead of 1500.  ;D

Plenty of wheels out there in the 150-200 range. I think the 1st ones list at 236 MSRP  and most places will give you a break especially if you buy a whel and tire package.

With that colour and almost every other Maxima sporting 5 spoke wheels, don't get 5 spoke wheels then.
Option No.1 it is. (IMCO of course  :))

I personally find if you go with a lip, the rim has to be large.  17" with a lip will look small on a car the size of the Maxima.  My brother has an ES ((lowered) and runs 18's with a lip.  If you're going for a bit of 'tude with this mod, 18" rims are the way to go.....

thanks for the idea about the lip making rim look small.

I will be going 17s . This is more for performance than looks (although obviously looks matter some). 18s are heavier, give no handling improvement, will ride much rougher, will cost much more and require expensive tires. Having them look a little better simply isn't enough to offset all that.

The 5Zigen Hyper Black looks nice.  Probably not cheap though.

Or a Rota rim (Torque)

The first ones look the best out of the three you posted, the second one looks boring and the third looks cheap.

Tire rack is good but it does have some limitations.

1. Limited brands
2. They don't carry all wheels in all sizes. Looking at the same rim in 19 doesn't give a true pic if you will buy 17s.
3. Unfortunatley no matter what year I pick they dodn't have my car color (maybe becuse of US canada differences) so I can come close but not exact.

Discount Tire has a site with wheels and so of course does Tire Trends here in Canada, but going back to choices I like door number 1. More sophisticated and unique me thinks.

I'm pretty sure I am going with these.

Fairly light 18 lbs
I'm off the polished lip thing as I'm afraid that will look dated in a year.
This is nice clean fairly simple but the hyper black color should look cool with the color of the car (I hope)

Hmmmm, I'm not feeling the black rims on a grey car.  Black on yellow & black on red both look good to me.

I'd still go with 17's whose spokes intercept the lip.  This is all just my opinion of course.
